Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI™ The village of Arrone is located on a rocky hill along the left bank of the Nera river, a short distance from the Marmore Falls. Once an important commercial hub on the road between the Duchy of Spoleto and Abruzzo, it remains a place of strong charm, not only for its medieval appearance typical of many Umbrian villages, but for the environmental context in which the ancient testimonies are set. The Nera River Park abounds in waters, trees, animals and strikes the imagination with its intense green, prelude to the recomposition of a habitat where the solitary sparrow, returned to nest in abandoned farmhouses, and the rare biancone, the Apennine raptor, find space again. Roman-era mills, hermitages and medieval monasteries, industrial archaeology buildings like the lignite mine in the Buonacquisto hamlet, frame Arrone, together with silver olives, which is a “hill castle”, like the others that guard the area.
