Description: Elba has a lot to offer: azure bays, green nature, and colorful minerals that make some dream beaches sparkle literally. The small Mediterranean island lies just ten kilometers off the Tuscan mainland and attracts two million vacationers every year. Simone Sombecki enjoys Italian joie de vivre in the bustling main town Portoferraio and follows in Napoleon's footsteps here. Relaxation is found on hikes – with and without donkey – through the forested and watery hinterland. And the dive with Corsaro becomes an adventure, who once trained apnea diving legend Jacques Mayol for his world record. Simone explores the picturesque mountain villages, the west around Monte Capanne, and the south with its beaches and campsites under pines. In the mining-shaped east, she visits Michelangelo Venturini, who paints his colorful pictures with minerals from the former iron ore mines around Capoliveri.
