Description:
A special kind of natural experience is witnessing the sunrise in the days before or after the winter solstice. With this turning point, December 21st, winter begins from an astronomical and calendar perspective. Sunlight reaches Central Europe on this day for about eight hours, making the remaining 16 hours dark. For the „starry hours in Advent“, we want to combine the winter solstice with a sunrise hike, and for that, one doesn't have to get up too early. A special spot for the sunrise is the Steinerne Miarz on the Wölkerkogel, and if you stand there around 7:30 a.m. and the weather permits, you experience a wonderful natural spectacle. The snowy landscape seems to completely transform in the warm, yellowish-orange light, and during those few minutes of sunrise, you feel the harmony of nature in a fascinating way.
