The tour starts after a shuttle bus ride to the turnaround spot with a long approach past Mairalm via Gassnersteig, where after just under 1.5 hours you stand at the start of the east ridge. The east ridge constantly alternates between walking terrain and easy climbing, which becomes increasingly difficult from halfway (up to UIAA II). The path is unmarked but well-trodden, which facilitates route-finding somewhat.
