Brusove or also Belčne klavže are the main and lower-situated of the two klavže (water barriers) in the gorge Belca. Because they are located closest to Idrija and are the most easily accessible, these are most often the klavže where visitors from Idrija are directed to view any of the "Slovenian pyramids.".
The originally wooden klavže from the 16th century were replaced with stone ones between 1767 and 1769. They served to collect water for floating timber from the gullies to the "grablje" at the confluence of the rivers Nikova and Idrijca in Idrija. They were abandoned in 1926, when a flood heavily damaged the "grablje" and timber transport shifted to a network of forest roads. In the early. 1990s, the klavže were renovated; in 2001, they were declared a cultural monument of national importance, and since 2012, together with the rest of the mercury heritage in Spanish Almadén and Idrija, they have been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Viewing the klavže (water barriers) is possible at your own risk, but it is generally not dangerous; some caution is needed, despite safety measures, only when walking on the steep stairs along the right bank of Belca, which lead to the chamber by the eastern spillway channel, while the western spillway channel is not accessible. The rear side of the barrier can be safely reached by continuing along the road for about 100 meters upstream along Belca, where a path branches off to the left, safely leading to the bank of Belca.
Today, Brusove klavže are easily accessible via a macadam forest road through the gorge Belca. The Slovenian cross-country cycling trail also runs along this road. Under the overhang on the barrier, we will also find a cabinet with a visitor's logbook.
