Dark-purple saxifrage (Saxifraga exarata subsp. atropurpurea)
Description:
Dark purple or purple-stemmed saxifrage (Saxifraga exarata subsp. atropurpurea) belongs to the furrowed saxifrages, which has three subspecies in Slovenia. One of them is presented. The other two are the Carniolan and musky ones.
Habitat: it is an endemic and grows only in the southern part of the Alps in the Krn group. It was discovered by Karel Zois.
Flowers: June-July
Description: it has very narrow leaves. The flower colour can vary greatly from greenish, yellowish-green to red and even very dark red shades.
