Yesterday from the parking lot at the Koralpe ski center (to here from Dravograd via the Vič border crossing, then through St. Andra to Wolfsberg, where signs for Koralpe direct right) past the Koralpenhaus hut I climbed to Grosser Speikkogel (highest peak of Golica/Koralpe). Descended to the Grosshöllerhütte hut and back to start past the Poms waterfall. Both paths snowy in upper part. LP Tadej

Yesterday we were on Austrian Golica. Start at Štamberger hut then along nice alpine pastures to the top which is 2142 m high. Two huge spheres adorn it. Probably radars. No snow, the tour is six hours long. LpFranc

After 40 years of hiking I finally conquered this two-thousander, which is actually the closest to me since I can see it from home. We went to the summit from the mountain pass Weinebene (on the road between Deutschlandsberg and Wolfsberg). Walking one way about three hours, along the ridge gently ascending all the way, one shorter section a bit steeper. Great weather, views to our Julian Alps.

This time we went with touring skis to Golica, we started skiing left of the Koralp ski area.
The previous day about 10 cm of new snow fell here and the descent was really nice. Of course there's too little snow, but in current conditions you can find a suitable track for descent, from the top only along the snowy road. Grassy plateaus on top are windblown. Really nice easy descent, suitable for beginners.
We also reached this summit only after more than 40 years of hiking.

Conditions on Sunday, 26.4.: dry, except some shady spots. Koralpenhaus hut was closed.

What's the snow situation these days? Is it possible to reach from the Weinebene direction?

From Weinebene to Koralpe summit ca 3h walk, one shorter section a bit steeper, otherwise pleasant path. Still snow, I see from home, if you take snowshoes nothing wrong. Lp

I hope it's allowed to ask for Austria, for Anger Kogel 2114m,? we plan to visit that peak, interested in characteristics-difficulty of path-(easy, demanding??) planned early February, so winter tour. Thanks for any info.
