Ivanščica 1060 m CRO

stankoju10. 05. 2010 21:27:55
In the afternoon we drove across the Cvetlin border crossing towards Ivanec with the aim of visiting Ivanščica. We started in the village of Prigorec. The path via Konj is well marked and leads to the summit. At the top today it was windy enough to blow us around, views weren't the best but we decided to return another time in better conditions. Ivanščica is full of wild garlic which gives a strong smell. We returned via Prekrižje down to the valley to the car. We did the whole path in under three hours.

For all interested Slovenian hikers for ascent to Ivanščica mountain, description of routes via several border crossings from Slovenia to Croatia follows.

1.Bregana entrance: after entering Croatia, follow motorway direction Zagreb to first junction Jankomir, continue motorway direction Krapina-Maribor to exit Sv. Križ Začretje towards Ivanec (big Roses shopping center on right). Road leads via Lepoglava to Ivanec. After motorway exit in Začretje, ca. 30 min to Ivanec. At roundabout before Ivanec turn right to center, main road. Road passes church, follows lively Bistricu stream, Rudolf Rajtera street to sawmill where houses end, after 100m entrance to Prigorec starting point of all northern trails to Ivanščica.

2.Macelj entrance: right after entering Croatia direction Trakošćan, main road via Bednja, Lepoglava to Ivanec. Route continuation as previous (Bregana).

3.Cvetlin entrance: after entering Croatia, first junction (inn) right to Trakošćan. After ca. 3km to Trakošćan (visible castle), left on main road via Bednja, Lepoglava to Ivanec. Continuation as previous (Bregana).

Ivanščica - path via Konj

Path to the top via Konj is one of the more demanding ones. Consists of three parts: ascent to Mali Konj, ascent to Veliki Konj, and ascent to the top. No special rest areas or water sources. So supply with liquids before ascent. Trail well marked entire way. Leisurely pace with rests and views, ascent takes about 90 minutes.

About 20 meters after the info point, at the crossroads we turn right.7
There is a parking lot at the last intersection. Our path to the summit of Ivanščica via Konj follows the right road.8
Pesek knows the way to the top, but only if he gets dog treats. If you hike alone, take him along - you won't be the first to do that.9

Ivanščica - path via Pionir

The Pionir path is the most demanding but also the most attractive ascent due to the trail configuration, beautiful views and nature itself. In its middle part, the ascent goes along the Ivanščica ridge, and views of Prigorec and Ivanec are offered along its entire length. Unfortunately, the path is extremely poorly marked. However, due to its attractiveness, a large number of hikers choose it, so the trails are well trodden. Since no other path crosses it, it is impossible to go wrong from it. The path to the top, with rests, takes about 90 min.

Ivanščica - path via Mrzljak

Mrzljak is one of several paths leading to the Ivanščica summit from Ivanec via Prigorec. On the path there are two arranged drinking water springs, Žgano vino and Mrzljak, and the whole path is well marked. At a leisurely pace, with rests at the drinking water springs, the path to the summit takes about two hours.

We ascended to the top from Prigorec via Konj to the hut. At the very top a strong wind welcomed us, otherwise sunshine. We returned via the south side of the mountain to the starting point. The path is well maintained and marked. On the way home we stopped at Friščičev mill and viewed the castle in Trakošćan. We'll come again. Greetings!

I also did the described tour last summer and it was pleasant, at least I liked it and I had nice weather again. The only problem was that the hut was closed during the week, otherwise connoisseurs of the hut say that the caretakers are very hospitable.

Today we went via Konj to the summit. Up top it was windy and for a few moments we saw the Julian Alps with Triglav in front. On the way back via Prekrižje we got caught in a heavy snow shower. The path was dry, here and there a bit icy. The hut is closed during the week. Greetings!

Straight from home I went to Ivanščica via Ravna gora. In Lepoglava I headed towards the summit, and I have to say that this part is poorly marked, or rather the marks have faded. You have to watch the path carefully. The weather served me well, the path itself took 12 hours.

Yesterday (23.12.2012.) a winter ascent to Ivanščica. Start early in the morning from the parking lot at the top of Prigorec and up the unofficial path called Po struji. This is located between paths Pionir and Konj. The path starts easy, then after a while an unofficial path Temna dol branches left. When the track turns to the right slope, there's pathless terrain and steep incline ahead. For orientation there are power lines bringing electricity to the hut and the summit tower. The path is steep all the way to the top.
We returned via Konj. With me was also friend Krešo.
On Ivanščica the snow line is around 500 m, but from 800 m it's hard and icy, about 20 cm deep. On the summit plateau be careful because there are drifts up to a meter.

13.07.2013.

Ascent via Mrzljak. The path is well made and nicely marked. Before the entrance to the hardest part, a shortcut has been made that bypasses the steep ascent on roots, but it also bypasses the Mrzljak spring...
Back via Konj. This path is now very eroded and gnawed...

Today (11.10.2013) a quick ascent to Ivanščica. Afternoon at work still goes. Up via Konj, down via Prekrižje. Pleasant conditions, only on Prekrižje one part a bit muddier...

Path Konj or via Konj is the most optimal path because in shortest time overcomes large height (about 650 m.a.s.l.). Prekrižje is somehow the best path for descent.
