I tackled the crossing of the mountain along the southwest ridge. Start is east of Tolmezzo. On the local road to Amaro I park before the tunnel or bridge (road closed further). Start on path 462 towards M. Amarianute. Initially flat over scree, then steeply into forest, path is undemanding and well marked. Summit is nice viewpoint (to here 2 hours). A bit before summit follows descent on eastern slope of the mountain and lower to notch, then over scree to start of "Mario Dalla Marta" path. Path leads over several edges, exposed traverses (protected) and then steeply up to ridge, follows some easy climbing (I), all the way steeply up along or on ridge, avoiding harder parts. I'd mark the path as demanding but not very demanding, excellently marked with red dots, no signposts for this path. In last part steep ascent on grass to pre-summit, where we join marked path 443 from north, summit is close. To summit at least 5 hours strenuous walking. Descent on path 414 to Forca del Cristo saddle, there right to asphalt road. Along it some hundred meters, when it turns to gravel at bend, which later gets more overgrown with grass. Follow road to house (farm building), where it ends (from saddle couple km, without any marks or pointers). From house on marked pathlet to valley. Path is quite overgrown but well followable, brings me exactly to start (no marks there). Traverse reminds me quite of Loška stena, but here much easier. A bit about start: from main road turn to Tolmezzo, then at first roundabout right (zona industriale), straight to end of road, where we reach local road to Amaro, here right and after ca 2 km to bridge or tunnel, where on right larger parking.

28. 4. 2025 Today from Cristo di Forca saddle on path 414 to Amariana summit. Path is well trodden and nicely maintained. Looks like they even mow the grass along the trail. In upper part the cables in the gully below the ridge are renewed and all fine. No more snow on path. To the ridge it was quite warm for this time of year, in summer must burn well over those grasses above tree line... . Luckily little visitors today (only 4 cars). Otherwise meeting on narrow road can be quite “work”. Views from summit … phenomenal with Creta Grauzaria and Monte Sernio in foreground and Julian Alps in background. Short but nice tour.
