Carnia was completely snow-free in the first days of November at least up to 2200 m altitude. For recharging batteries we chose Monte Pisimoni and the ridge towards Crostis, which has somehow become our annual mantra. Probably due to wilderness, picturesque paths and views far around nasmeh.

This time we reversed the ascent direction and first went through the gorge of Rio Simon stream towards Crostis and then along the ridge to Pisimoni. This variant has plenty of sun from morning to evening, which is most welcome in late autumn days. Steep ascent can't be avoided though velik nasmeh.

Starting point coordinates: 46.399850, 13.242486

Already at the parking lot there is a sign for this ascent direction1
Chapel dedicated to alpinists2
They are not military crosses, the oldest dates to the 19th century3
A face that has long overlooked the Rio Simon gorge4
A pleasant, not at all strenuous path leads above the gorge.5
Renato and Lucija were here :)6
Hunting lodge far from traffic routes. Next to it is a water trough.7
Fallen leaves already thickly cover the path.8
*Ospedale militare* from the First World War, a solidly preserved building and above all enormous.9
The hospital rooms were actually in two stories.10
It was raining and snowing in Slovenia, but here it was a wonderful autumn day.11
We continue towards the Fonderis saddle.12
Along the path towards the saddle, one of the two routes to Zuc dal Bor branches off.13
Zuc dal Bor is in the middle of the photo. The former via ferrata on the summit part has not yet been restored.14
We are already on the more or less ridge path Crostis -> Pisimoni.15
The right peak in the background is Monte Pisimoni, the little giant.16

View towards Tolmezzo and Amariana above it. The Po Valley was continuously in fog.19

The plaques were stolen years ago. A replica now replaces the original.22
We descended to the village of Ovedasso and continued along the road to the starting point.23

yes, wonderful indeed! How much time does such a loop take?

@ločanka ... we did the complete circular via Crostis and Pisimoni in under 10 hours including a break, it's about 2200m elevation and 25 km. For this time of year maybe a shorter but equally nice circular variant just via Pisimoni, without Crostis, is more suitable. I described that on the previous page, dated 4.1.2019. You do just over 12 km and 1500m elevation, we needed 6.5 hours total. Nice area, recommend nasmeh.

The blue track is the shorter variant, blue and red together the longer one, without the blue middle connection of course1

ločanka,
I also spent about ten hours on the tour. Went up from Ovedasso, then to Crostis and down along Rio Simon. If/when you decide for the tour, don't shorten it, you'll miss the nicest parts mežikanje Worth the effort to do it fully, even though it's long nasmeh

Starting point Ovedasso, on steep zigzag path to Pismoni. While the trail is in forest it's still nice, then tall grass bothers. On top some sheep that wanted to graze with us. Towards Crostis mists were lingering, so we walked the "small" loop. Otherwise trail dry. On descent trail has too tall grass, shows rarely used.

Still not too steep.2

This year we hurried to visit Pisimoni and Crostis before someone thinks of closing borders again. Last year exactly that happened to us and we missed this beautiful circular route we usually do every year. This time we did the full loop, from Ovedasso to Pisimoni, traverse to Crostis and back along Rio Simon gorge to the start. All paths are well passable, snow has been gone for a long time, stream levels in gullies are low. Recommend nasmeh.
Parked in the hollow between Ovedasso and Roveredo1
We continue on asphalt. View of the peaks we are heading to2
Ovedasso. A little further is the start of the steep path 4233
Sign for Pisimoni, which is part of the Alta via CAI Moggio traverse4
Free translation ... may the hand of the one who stole the cross wither5
It also goes like this, narrow and exposed6
The views open up more and more. The central pyramid is Amariana7
Golden autumn. Here the trees color later due to the different climate8
Monte Pisimoni. 1500 meters of ascent are needed to get here9
On the summit. Only sheep keep us company10
The ridge to Monte Crostis still awaits us. That will add another 500 meters of ascent11
The ridge path is quite long, occasionally retreating to the eastern side12
Throughout, the markers for Alta via CAI Moggio accompany us13
Towards the lowest point of the ridge, the path gets lost in the grass14
Junction for the cross shortcut to the start. This one is also beautiful15
Along the path ...16
A little more and we will be on Monte Crostisu17
View towards Tolmezzo18
View towards Grauzaria19
We are already on Monte Crostisu. Its closest neighbour is Zuc dal Bor20
We will return down this valley21
Saddle Forcella Fonderis. Here we leave the ridge and turn right onto 42522
View from the cross path onto our descent23
View back24
Hospital Sot Cretis from WWI, still very well preserved25
Already descending. Beneath these peaks we traversed the cross path26
Hidden blaze for the branch to 424. From our direction it cannot be seen27
Crossing the first gully. Three more follow28
We walk in the lower storey of our ridge29
Another gully. Water level is low and the crossings are not difficult30
Stavolo Fondariis, sort of a pasture in the middle of nowhere31
Another detail of this very interesting path32
At the crosses. Here the cross path 450 joins33
We're wrapping up. The car was alone, we didn't meet anyone either.34

Almost 1500m vertical, don't know if there's such a steep path in Slovenia with so much elevation gain. Steep all the way, sometimes even on all fours. Especially the special passage on the ledge. Water flowing below and above. Snow didn't cause special problems.

Pisimoni is a little giant as always, especially if you climb it along the ridge from Monte Crostis. That's what we did and without a bad conscience I can call the whole loop from night to night nasmeh. We did great, only one longer break, but daylight is too short this time of year. In photo finish we used headlamps, mainly to avoid unnecessary stumbles. I had more on descent from Pisimoni than in two previous years together nasmeh. Reason thick dry grass deposits and obviously unsuitable soles for that. Otherwise great boots slipped like crazy on that terrain and added heavy psychological note to steep descent. Luckily all good, deep sigh of relief probably heard far around velik nasmeh. We'll be back …
We park at the lower edge of the village Ovedasso. We go in the direction of Monte Crostis and the car will be closer on return.1
First we have to cover two kilometers of asphalt. The morning is awakening, the chapel of St. Anton is still in the dark.2
The path shortens through the narrow alleys of Ovedasso.3
Finally we arrive at the entrance to the forest trail. The sign shows only intermediate goals, to the ridge it is still quite far.4
We have walked this path many times already. Soft, not too steep little trail leads into the gorge of the Rio Simon stream.5
The blue dot is a newer marking, it means the waterfalls path.6
At the three crosses. Here path 450 branches off, by which you can shorten the route considerably in both directions.7
Bouldering for ordinary gravel :)8
Hard to believe, but the path will lead us across these walls.9
We are used to this, there is always some excellent passage :)10
Stavolo Fondariis, firmly locked and solidly secured for winter conditions.11
Next to the hut there is always running water, piped through alkaten tubes from a distant spring.12
The forest is strewn with beech leaves and the path is also thickly covered.13
We cross five watery gullies and all of them are currently passable without major difficulties.14
Hmm, the path is somewhere here, but I can't see it …15
At some places we also engage four-wheel drive :)16
Our ridge shows itself for the first time …17
We still have to tackle the steep ascent to the cross path18
Ours will have the mark 425 for a long time yet, it will connect to 425A19
We are already on the upper path. The junction of both paths is at the well-preserved military barracks Sot Cretis20
The path has undergone aesthetic improvements since our last visit in the form of cleared scree.21
In the distance we spot our final goal Monte Pisimoni, in Old Slovenian Počimunih.22
The narrowest passage. Time has ruined it and it is not easy to pass.23
View back at the collapsed passage.24
Further ahead there are some rocks, but no active scree fall is visible.25
View back at the transverse path. From afar it looks short, but there are numerous zigzags in between.26
Junction of several paths at the saddle Forcella Fonderis. Here we turn left onto the ridge.27
The beginning is quite steep. In the background the just traversed path is visible.28
Monte Crostis and us :)29
Behind us none other than Zuc del Bor. Mateja has already visited it, mine still awaits :)30
In front of us a long ridge hike to Pisimoni. It will take us two and a half hours to get there.31
The start is rockier, the end as well ….32
In between there follows a deep descent to a point almost 300 m lower, where transverse path 450 branches off.33
The lowest point at approx. 1520 m. From here it only goes up …34
And steeply upwards, all the way to the top.35
Finally, Monte Pisimoni.36
The mountain is a little giant by ascent, but a true giant by view :)37
Views in all directions. In the background are Strma peč and Montaž.38
Another view towards the mouth of Kanalska dolina.39
The sun is already low, so we continue quickly. This is a view back at Pisimoni.40
We have to descend deep into the valley. The markers are poorly visible in the steep grass, the correct direction uncertain.41
Only lower down there are some more markers. All are worn out, in many places a stake would be useful.42
Shadows are lengthening, the color of the day is turning golden…43
It is steep, so caution is advisable.44
We are entering an exposed terrain, but unfortunately my shoes do not get along well with the grass :)45
Key passages, attractive but with one-way traffic.46
The path goes along this ledge. On the spot it does not look so bad, just be careful.47
Everything has turned golden: rocks, grass, the two of us.48
The very last sunlight, followed by a good half hour of twilight.49
The day is fading, below it is already deep night.50
A short return past the houses follows.51
And we are already at the starting point. The time is only just after five in the afternoon.52
