... If it's of any help, how to get to Lonice pass, there are signs there....From Ljubljana via Gorenjska motorway, exit Hrušica, continue through border crossing Rateče to Tarvisio. Continue on local road to Pontebba, where a small orientation loop awaits us. Before the village turn through the second underpass and right after it sharply left. Continue on this road to junction for Studena Bassa. If we mistakenly turned through first underpass, continue through village to junction with sign for Nassfeld pass. Here look back to the left and a few 100 m behind notice sign for Studena Bassa. Drive there and turn extremely sharply left onto narrower road. This leads to village Studena Bassa, through which we drive and continue on narrow and steep asphalted road with some concrete turns towards Lonice pass or Cason di Lanza. There is guesthouse and parking for few dozen cars. For entire route from Ljubljana to guesthouse we need 2 hours.

What about the difficulty of the ferrata on Guardia?

Both ferratas - on Zermula and on Zuc della Guardia - are officially rated B/C difficulty level.

Very good "photo report" is here:

Yesterday we headed via Pontebba to the Lanza saddle (17 km asphalted mountain road), where our starting point was and via ferrata to Monte Zermula. Of course, these were just pious wishes velik nasmeh. It was already officially not possible to reach the saddle, as the road was broken and lifted in some places, creating tens of cm holes that were patched somehow. The road is CLOSED. With the off-roader, we reached the saddle without problems. Even before the ferrata entrance there were snowfields, a bit below the entrance a larger compacted snowfield. Walking on snow presented no issues without winter gear. When we found the ferrata entrance, we sighed in relief, put on helmets, harnesses and via ferrata sets. The starting part is quite steep but manageable, then it levels out, drops a bit and then slight ascent again. When we reached the level eek !!! No winter gear, no continuation mrk pogled. We faced a steep snowfield from which the cable was visible at one spot, but it was so steep that continuing without winter gear would not be safe, mildly put. I continued alone to the right, through the narrow and pronounced gully hoping to reach the cable after climbing it. By my estimate, it was II degree difficulty. I climbed about 100m, two III steps maybe in between, then the difficulty increased, found old pegs with prusik, then I knew the fun was over. Did not see the cable, as it hid behind a pronounced steep rock outcrop and obviously went left to the ridge to the summit where WWI ruins were visible. Had to admit it was better to turn back zadrega. Initially hoping to conquer the summit via normal route, but soon after descent to starting point had to accept no bread from this flour, as fog below the summit clearly said better another time. No excessive disappointment, as we viewed other sights nearby and spiced the day with trunk content jezik.
Right after descent from Lanza saddle (about 1 km) towards Paularo (42 km) we hit a landslide eek and it seemed we were trapped. Excavator working full throttle, learned road closed until next day. Turned around and headed on ragged mountain road to Austria. No border control 😊. Almost an hour we drove on that road past several pastures and huts (summer obviously crowded huts), until we started losing height and arrived in Gail Valley, where we sighed from gravel shaking. Soon towards Nassfeld, soon after border noticed Italian patrol. Right after lake parked and treated ourselves to trunk content for solid two hours velik nasmeh. Patrol changed checkpoint to our parking where we turned to lake and deservedly refreshed. After good two hours Golf column arrived (obviously fans meeting nearby), Italians stopped them and dealt with them, we quickly packed and whizzed past velik nasmeh to valley. In valley new patrol, could not pass zadrega. But our driver did not consume banned substances mežikanje forbidden for driving, so after few-minute check continued to SLO jezik.
If anyone goes our route, know that for another week or two winter gear needed at some places, road from Pontebba to Lanza saddle NOT suitable for normal car.

I warmly recommend these two ferratas. Monte Zermula is an exceptionally beautiful, quite long ferrata... on the descent to the other side, also a jump to Monte Guardia, which is really breathtaking, fairly short but exposed adrenaline ferrata.

I'd like to go to Monte Zermula, but I'm interested in some fresh info on the path to the Lonice pass and onwards to the summit. Thanksmežikanje

Just the name Lonice pass tells that at least two accesses lead there. The one from Paularo is more tricky and the road is narrow but at least OK drivable. The road from Pontebba direction was already years ago kind of asphalt staircase style.

Ferrata path without peculiarities, fixed gear in excellent condition. We descended via Lonice saddle, that path also without peculiarities.
Road from Pontebba drivable with some caution, as there are quite a few fallen trees in the road area removed only superficially (Officially closed for that reason).

Road still officially closed, despite that quite a few of us were at the saddle today. On the return, guys from corpo forestale (don't know what else) stopped us and said road closed nasmeh Well, they were correct, we were too and parted friendly... just FYI... On Zermula conditions JanezSeliškar said it all.

To the starting points for the hills in the Zermula group during the week you need to go 'around the back into the valley' because the road Pontebba/Tablja - Lonice/Passo del Cason di Lanza is closed for forestry works. It is open on weekends and every afternoon after 17 or 18.

Early in the morning the car sped past Tolmeča/Tolmezzo through Paularo to Zermula hut. From there path along Z ridge, much of the time a few to tens of meters below it, so appealing to do a bit your own way and view from ridge sections all around as the view goes really far. From Zermula summit mostly on path named Via delle Trencee to V. As exploratory urge not gone, continue exploring on ridge top and as always in area where war raged 100 years ago marvel at efforts for paths, structures, everything without which humanity could survive; probably much more peacefully. Descend to Forca di Lanza saddle, start ascent on pathless which is actually easy-to-follow track to M. Pizzulo. From its top on relatively easy ridgelet to Zuc di Malaseitu, whose summit needs climbing. I from col slightly right up about 10 m. Terrain crumbly but after 15 m at still well-preserved stairs and 'house' without roof, above which is summit. Descended same path, went part back on ridge then at suitable spot traversed to saddle between Pizzulo and Guardia, from there secured path to latter summit and on other side down to Lonice pass.

Morning ended with coffee, afternoon continued on other side of pass. nasmeh

Yesterday at half past seven in the morning I still managed to drive from Pontebba to the saddle. Already met one truck hauling wood valleywards; a little reverse driving didn't hurt. In the afternoon I returned via Paularo and Tolmezzo. Cheers!

Bbugari1, you are right. I prepared pics that I was supposed to post, but one slipped away, and I stuck its caption under the wrong one. Under that one should be what is under pic 4. I'll fix it later.
Since I can't replace the pic, I deleted it.

Jaz, at Lonice I saw another Slovenian car and commented to myself that only we stay long at the parking lot, as others are mostly gone around 18:00. I don't know when they close the road in the mornings.

And did you do a walking tour on foot from Lonice along the road to Planina Zermula, or...?

From Lonic to Zermula hut is ca. 8 km. You can go on foot or hitchhike.
