Yes, they'll assign you a retired Russian officer to run ahead of you and show you the way

It's an organized race with currently already more than 200 registered competitors and not some individual run of mine.

Something's not clear: If it's an organized race, why would I need to hire a local guide myself?

Probably because he wrote that before the race he plans to climb Elbrus himself first..

Try contacting Društvo Stratus http://www.drustvo-stratus.si/ - they organize ascents to Elbrus and surely Silvo has all the bureaucracy studied. Bravo for the registration and good luck at the race!

Are you serious? The whole thing looks like attention seeking and "click bait"... you'd go to Elbrus, but googling is too hard. In 5 seconds I got the info.

During the actual race for the ascent to the summit I don't need a permit. Since I'm planning another ascent beforehand, I need info. And don't worry, I've researched a lot. Also with the ones mentioned above. But even they couldn't give an exact answer. Now I have this info: probably not. Maybe yes, because Russians like to mess around. I'd like current info (ideally from last year). So I'm asking seriously again. If you don't know, don't reply or write that you don't know. @ Ek: What was your info?

Bojan A, you have huge positive moral support on such a sports and mountaineering oriented portal as Hribi.net. Hard to understand that no Euros are found from the state for such media-resonant sports competitions with strong international participation. This is excellent promotion for Slovenia. We wish you lots of sports luck in this and future competitions at home and abroad! Regards

All support from my side too! Very brave decision..... Equip yourself well with clothes... they say temps drop seriously into minus. Russian women are supposedly "tough" regarding endurance....

I don't expect to get anything from the state. But I'm very grateful that I've already got a sponsor who covered part of the expedition costs. I hope to have such luck to gain trust from another patron.

Bojan, I regularly follow your posts, they're wonderful, a bit of motivation for some, but when you reach the top as a winner you must wear a shirt with exwannabe written on it

It really is a very prominent sports competition. But you're just for jokes. And now you'd even want money from the state for a tourist trip. The whole blog is already just one big bluffing.

Well, if something doesn't suit me, I'd rather not comment than write my own botch-up. Everyone just does what suits them.
