Active underwear

Do you use active underwear i.e. Swiss shirts on hikes and which types do you recommend and where can one get them and their price.

Material is similar to cycling and e.g. running jerseys, but on a bike the wind carries away moisture (body sweat) immediately, on a mountain uphill path it doesn't. Advantage over cotton shirt is that these shirts don't absorb body sweat (not hygroscopic), but the feeling is not pleasant, as sweat stays in the material anyway (when dry the smell is not appealing). Prices vary, about 2-3 times more expensive than cotton shirts. I looked for "polo shirt" cut, unsuccessfully, they offer only closed round or "V" neck, which by my experience is not the best for hiking in mountains.

One more: "Švic" shirts can be bought in all stores with alpinistic gear, e.g. IGLU SPORT in BTC, on Petkovškovo nabrežje, on Tržaška street (www.iglusport.si) and also sports gear stores.

Hello,

I too walked in cotton shirts for a long time, now about 1 month ago I bought Švic shirts online at www.kibuba.com and I am very satisfied, price around 13€ per piece. Otherwise they have a store at Koseze market in the basement. Mine is Trek Mates brand. But only round cut, not polo shape. If you buy from Milo it is not good, doesn't wick well, tested.

Everyone should decide for themselves.

Can someone advise me how to destroy the terrible smell of "švic majic" that even machine washing doesn't overcome?

I've tried tons of active shirts myself and the best performers for me were Craft (Promontana) and Loeffler (Koala Sport Bled; material is seamless or transtex). The latter brand is really good, wicks sweat, stays dry and best of all - doesn't stink!!! smile It's true though that different material suits everyone and consequently different brand. Best regards, Maja

p.s. Sorry for the advert smile

These Swiss shirts don't help me at all. I'm wet with them or regular t-shirts, only the collar bothers me with Swiss shirts. If you're in a dilemma whether to buy them I advise against it.
PS. this is my personal opinion

Well at least I'm not alone with this problem ...
No shirt has helped me either because I sweat heavily on my back and every one is wet after half an hour uphill. So I stopped wearing "Swiss shirts", take some regular ones and change.

I.e. "Swiss shirts" also have this advantage that they are much lighter than cotton ones which is important especially on multi-day tours. Big difference if you carry in backpack 3 sweat-soaked cotton shirts or "Swiss shirts" that are light even "after use"...

I've been using Brynje for years myself. Besides wicking away moisture it's also good insulating underwear against wind and cold.velik nasmeh
