Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley

pohodni3. 05. 2012 19:17:52
Sometimes it's good to test the limits of one's own abilities a bit. Although I mainly do shorter tours with the bike up to 60 km, today I finally decided for a more serious tour, to cycle from Styria to Gorenjska. Start early in the morning from Tinja, descent towards Slo. Bistrica, continuation towards Celje, under Trojanami turn right towards Kamnik, then towards Kranj, Jesenice and stop a bit below Mojstrana, where I meet my wife who had just arrived by car with another bike in it. We continued cycling to Aljaž Hut together.
The route went without major problems except for the last ascents towards Aljaž which I barely managed without stopping, as my knees were already burning a bit.
Although I've gotten blisters on my hands many times before (but not from cycling), today for the first time it happened that I almost got them on my ass toojezen. Despite padded cycling shorts, the hard saddle, which is supposed to be called a bike seat, obviously left its consequences.
Total just under 10 hours of cycling including stops, and 210 kilometers traveled including the descent from Aljaž back down to the car.
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley After the first hour of cycling I arrive at Stranci.1
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley After two hours Žalec follows.2
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley When three hours have passed I turn towards Kamnik.3
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley The roof on Grintovec will soon be bare.4
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley Kamnik, after four hours and 110 km.5
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley Interesting building at Jože Pučnik airport, after five hours.6
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley I arrive at that village in six hours.7
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley Stol is already almost bare.8
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley An hour later I arrive in Jesenice.9
Aljaž Hut in the Vrata Valley Goal at Aljažev dom after nine hours and 194 km.10

Sincere congratulations Pohodni, but I think you missed the forum. As I've mentioned many times, Hribi.net is losing its basic purpose. But please don't misunderstand me, really nice tour, but completely unimportant post for us mountaineers. By the way, some of us have done much longer tours, but we don't post them. We just cycle and hike for our soul and not for others. If I think some advice is useful for others, I post it gladly.

Yeah, hribi are khm khm, no, not even remotely close to the theme as they were a year ago. Every day the same silly questions "do I need" and "what's the path like" and "we or I am the fastest, highest, most" .....

Why for God's sake does nobody ask if the sea is still wet and the water still salty zmeden

pohodni posted the tour under topic "mountain biking" and I see no problem in that.
montblanc write in your name not in the name of all mountaineers, I gladly read his post.
Not many useful tips from you have arrived yet since this is your second post, or you have some reserve name.

pohodni sincere congratulations to you, really enviable tour.

Montblanc is quite right, because pohodni's post doesn't speak about current conditions, nor is the ride from Sl. Bistrica to Gorenjska mountain biking. And there's no big deal to boast about with 200 km for the whole day.

Pohodni has already done a long and strenuous tour, especially if he went with a mountain bike. On the long path towards the goal he also covered the not quite short Vrata valley with almost 400 m ascent. I see only praise here, over 1000 m and the type of post fully fits the forum. nasmeh

Pohodni - congrats!
In those climbs towards Aljažev dom we used to push bikes sometimes or even before, when we sweated on foot under heavy backpacks.
I think there's nothing wrong with the post being published under this topic!

joža x when you went to Škrlatica last summer you didn't write anything about current conditions on the path.
I didn't learn anything else then, only that you carried your drunk ass up there. But that's not much to brag about either.

I'll say it this way. If you post nothing, then nothing. If you post something average, it's still unnoticed. But if you post something that sticks out from the bounds of some average, then comments start, positive and of course also negative. If there are more positive ones it's good, with negative it's bad.
With the post I wanted only to indicate that a completely average cyclist can do a quite decent tour, in this case with a completely ordinary mountain bike. That some can do much more is completely clear to me and I'd be very happy for their posts on this forum too. If we don't add spices to the food it's not tasty, likewise the forum probably wouldn't be interesting without contributions that exceed the bounds of average. The exchange of different opinions can also be interesting, making the forum more alive.
Safe travels.

Pikica 1, really no bragging with drinking, but we drink it willingly and didn't brag about it. If you read the post well you know it was a route comparison: Vrata-Škrlatica and Zapoden-Bavški Grintavec, which might interest someone (my opinion).

Montblanc and joža x are definitely right. In my opinion it's definitely a nice tour in kilometers, time, ability test, event description... but this is no mežikanje mountain biking. It sticks out from average in mileage but around Pohorje it's casually 150 kilometers. Some in replies obviously think that mountain biking is riding over a thousand meters and a few hundred meters of elevation on gravel or even less. Mountain biking is roughly this: Source Here everyone writes articles about mountain biking but very few are such that claims about mountain biking mežikanje hold up. I myself have posted quite a few and only two or three are really proper mountain biking. Anyway, interesting tour, good idea and also joint cycling with wife in the last kilometers - nice and praiseworthy. A very suitable place for posting would be Bicikel.com. Nice listing by hourly rates but even better if the tour was supported by GPS and remained even nicer - today already an archival memory.

Regarding the higher road percentage of pohodni's tour I agree with burny's assessment. Otherwise the Vrata valley itself as well as other valleys already belong among the easier forms of mountain biking (table) and the area is undoubtedly of mountain character. MTB tours always vary in length, ascent height, path difficulty, so here there are harder and easier ascents and descents. Of course you can reach many places also with an ordinary trekking bike where mountain bikers occasionally ride. But I don't understand such scolding of someone who posts a tour on the forum with some trail elements also with mountain riding (25% climb, gravel in places).

Here is the forum conditions corner, if you want to continue the conversation let the administrator move this to general debate. But pohodni's executed plan is good.

First congrats to pohodni for the tour. I myself have done similar and some shorter tours with MTB in the past (up to 150 km), so I know what you experienced velik nasmeh
I would have posted this tour first on bicikel.com rather than here under mountain biking. But as viharnik says, Vrata valley is already a mountain bike tour or trip.
I notice in conversations with many that they consider climbs with road bike to mountain passes like Vršič, Bohinj saddle... as mountain biking. For me it's still road cycling, despite the big elevation gain we overcome. But it's still road.
