Today the forecast showed clear weather above 1500 m a.s.l., so I set off from the parking lot in Vrata valley, via Tominškova path to Begunje Peak. Started in the dark and fog, after a good hour of walking snow and ice start on the path. Judging by the number of spiderwebs on my face, no one has been on this path since yesterday, confirmed also by footprints in the snow, two pairs of shoes in descent direction. At the start of the climbing section, still in thick, dark and de-motivating fog, more and more snow and ice on the path, so careful steps are needed, and without experience I wouldn't go further. Somewhere at 1700 m a.s.l. I finally poke my head out of the thick fog, which as always lifts the motivation to the right level and we go full throttle. Path to the exit from Tominškova is nice, fixed protection good, snow persists in shady spots. At Staničev dom I make coffee, check the winter room which is very nicely arranged (mattresses, pillows, etc...) and hope it stays that way. After coffee I hop to Begunje Peak, where I meet the only hiker today, who came from Vrbanove špice direction. At the summit beautiful views in solitude, so I stay a while and enjoy. I descend via the path behind Cmirom. Also here, in shady spots behind Begunje Peak, snow persists, which was still without traces, so I orient by cairns. The last part of the path, on northern screes, again in thick fog, path covered with a few cm of snow, so had to descend carefully not to slide too far. Nice circular route on a beautiful day. Total 6h 30min walking, on winter and spring paths More in photos and video.
