Bukovnik - Raduha - Lanež - Bukovnik

Since I found notes about the so-called Hojnik Path to Lanež, I decided today to search for it. Park at Bukovnik and head past Grohat to the top of Raduha. From the top to Lanež, where I found remains of the once-marked Hojnik Path. The path starts in scrub, which is soon replaced by the northwest wall of Lanež. I followed the path down through a gully full of unpleasant scree. Since the slope was quite steep, going down was very difficult. In the gully there are some pitons and a couple of pegs, they are bent, but you can still use them to help. After descending from the gully, there's a traverse to the right under the Lanež wall and then down through gullies. At about 1600m altitude, the path branches left to the Grohat hut. I took about 5 hours for the path. I recommend it to those mountaineers who are used to off-trail walking and for whom using a rope on the wall is not unfamiliar. LP

A few more pictures for a better idea of the Hojnikova trail.

Actually this trail is Honikova not Hojnikova, on Lanež on the rock it says Honikova pot, but since the inscription is poorly visible you read it quickly as Hojnikova. Best

It was made by mountaineer Ivan Hojnik in the time between the two wars. LP

Ivan HOJNIK was a priest and teacher in Koprivna from 1910-1941. He traced many roads in this area, as well as the mountain trail over Lanež. This trail is still called HOJNIKOVA trail today. Best

That's how it's written on the rock, maybe they forgot the J. LP.

Take a look at the available literature and you'll find out how it's correct. LP.

On Saturday, my brother and I hiked the Hojnik Path to Lanež for the first time. More about the path at the link below: http://nace.si/blog/?p=301

On Sunday, a group of alpinism course participants led by experienced alpinists Marko Zupan and Jul Borišek went on their first group tour, namely along the Hojnik Path to Lanež and further to the top of Raduha. Meeting at 7:00 at the permanent base in Luče, after coffee we drove together to the highest-lying farm in Slovenia at Bukovnik, where our joint off-trail hike to the top of Raduha also began. Marko kept a relatively fast pace from the start according to many, so warming up was no big issue. After walking through the forest and a very steep meadow with snow remnants, we soon arrived below the cliffs of Lanež and spotted the entrance to the gully, through which we continued our ascent to Raduha. The gully posed no special difficulties to anyone, although some chose their own path and missed the right one badly. The climbing difficulty is rated 2nd grade by Marko. After exiting the gully, we reached the top of Raduha in 30 minutes and descended via the new hiking path over Durce to the Grohat mountain hut and shortly after to our starting point at Bukovnik pasture. Total tour time with all stops was about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Today I ascended the secured path to the top of Raduha. The path is completely dry and without noteworthy snow. At the top relatively strong wind, visibility was excellent. On the return I also visited Lanež and descended via the Hojnik Path to the valley. Protections - pitons (those there are) are completely bent, pegs are OK and in the places where they should be. Key spot of the path is a chimney somewhere in the middle of the descent. For people with longer limbs it's much easier to overcome the chimney. Otherwise an excellent path (alpinistically marked), which is definitely easier upwards. LP

As the saying goes, there's no bad weather in the mountains, so despite the unpromising forecast I decide to visit Raduha. From Bukovnik I head into the forest and slog through mud to the Grohat hut, which is getting a new roof. Then straight up the meadow and find a faint path leading to the Hojnik Path on Lanež. Of course it starts raining hard and so thoroughly soaked I climb the gully to the top of Lanež, where surprisingly the sun awaits me. After a short break I head towards the fog-shrouded Raduha. No views from the top, so I start descending the climbing path back to Grohat. Then rain, rain and rain again. The climbing proved quite unpleasant when muddy and wet. Completely soaked I arrive at the hut, refresh myself and go to the car. As said, regardless of weather, wonderful but today quite demanding tour. LP

Since the new, easier path over Durce was made, the difficulty level of this path has been lowered (previously difficult, now easy). The path through the north wall of Raduha remains a very difficult path, so I think the difficulty marking of the path (in the picture) is really inappropriate. LP

The Hojnik Path is great as a variation for the ascent to Lanež or further to Raduha, but I'd really like to know which specimen lacking sense of aesthetics marked it so ugly with red spray. If anything, small dots (or figures) would be quite sufficient, definitely markings are not needed in the exit gully where orientation is more than clear. By the way, on the video I noticed the marking on the larch "Lanež (left)" above the hut, which wasn't there this time last year.

It looks like the signs were recently placed, the one you mention and another one higher up at the saddle marking the direction to Grohat, so for descent. Descent via the gully would be quite demanding and I don't recommend it since there's lots of scree. Otherwise a nice ascent I'll do again when going to Raduha, and early hour so no one drops pebbles on your head
