Cavers' Bivouac on the Dleskovska Plateau

Cavers' bivouac/SPELEOS-SIGA VELENJE
Last month dedicated members of the CAVING CLUB SPELEOS - SIGA VELENJE set up a bivouac on the Dleskovska Plateau. A lot of effort and dedication was needed for the dreams of president Matic Boršnak and other members to come true.
The bivouac stands in a beautiful place and when you walk around the area it's immediately clear why here…? Abundance of sinkholes, caves in the immediate vicinity suggests that explorations won't end soon…
7:45 we park at Planina Ravne. Some horses on pasture, peaks in fog and quite cold. In fog along the marked path then almost invisible turn-off. Landscape wonderful even in fog. Janez searches for tracks to the bivouac. We hope the sun will break through the foggy blanket and warm us. On the way we check out a natural bridge, climb, explore, enjoy. Finally spot (9:55) the bivouac. Nice, tidy, functional. Space under the roof open and intended so some tired hiker can overnight (8 people). Cavers have the lower part of the bivouac locked for themselves only. Janez and Milan immediately crawl under the roof (shoes off of course!!). We hope this space stays in such tidy condition for long…as it is now. That's why we're responsible visitors!!
The sun appears towards Polish Maidens. We explore, chat, look around, photograph, Janez climbs the ledge under the ridge above precipices. Continue to Velika Zelenica, Veliki vrh, can't get enough of all that surrounds us…Some places in shade still snow remnants, ice candles. Before noon we're in fog on Veliki vrh. Snack and descent our own way down. In the fog we meet three sheep that apparently slipped the organized return to the valley. They're shy. Long grasses and little sun, then soon fog again. Tiring descent back to start (15:00). We stop just to mention the lost sheepies and return home.
Very nice tour. Sure we were in fog quite a while, but no big deal, there was quite some sun too. Tour for »soul and body«!!!

I mean it seriously. The thing is interesting and complements hiking and off-trail walking nicely. In winter you're warm; if no water even dry velik nasmeh

I agree with you that it complements hiking and off-trail. We discover quite a few sinkholes and caves ourselves on our wanderings.
But last year we had the chance to practically try underground wandering. Of course under expert guidance of experienced cavers.
We saw part of the cave in Hudi luknji. That part is equipped with fixed pegs and pitons. It was a good experience. Now I appreciate cavers and their explorations even more. It was quite strenuous and dangerous. Darkness, wet, muddy, slippery steps. Along the way roaring water, siphons. Great guys those!!
I prefer light, sun, wind, snowflakes caressing my face, larches showering me with needles, rock is different..
underground world not for me...
but glad I had the chance to experience a bit of what cavers do!!nasmeh

Today to J. bivouac past Ojster vrh. A long path awaited us and we didn't climb Ojster.
Looked towards Jezartica lake and past it under the walls to Pl. Ravne. The path was traceable for a while, then some searching. Before Pl. Ravne we stepped onto the marked path to Molička planina. Clear turn-off to bivouac past scree, snowfields. At bivouac we took a short break. From the dark clouds above us we got some ice pellets. They nicely rattled on the bivouac's tin roof. We weren't too worried, as in case of heavier rain we would have retreated under the bivouac roof.
Then we climbed to Zelenica and Veliki vrh. The snowfields were easy to avoid. Descent down the gully and ascent to Dleskovec. In between we petted a ptarmigan, which chased us away with hissing.
Past D. trat and descent to Pl. Ravne. We drank beer and then descended to the starting point. After a bit over nine hours of walking we ended a pleasant trip on the Dleskovska Plateau.
best regards

In the morning I park 15min below Planina Ravne +9C.
When I cross the meadow past the hut, I don't notice any livestock nor does it look like anyone is here.
From the larch greenery it pulls me into the rocks of Dleskovec cirque. On the scree I surprisingly notice at least 50m of wire rope. Probably avalanches brought it from the wall.
Did hunters or shepherds use it once (probably both)? I look for passages in the wall and find myself the most rugged and complicated one. I realize this later when I find at least two passages (much easier) that chamois use. When I climb out of the rock onto the grass, I have one minute to Planšarija Dolge trate.
I continue to the top of Dleskovec and in quite strong southwest wind descend into the gully.
I cross the marked and unmarked "cavers'". This one is still quite snowy in places. At the bivouac I rest and check where to avoid snow patches when ascending to Zelenica.
On Veliki vrh I lie in the sun and enjoy the rest. Descent without special features. Snow patches can be avoided. Along the marked through dwarf pines and then unmarked path to Planina Jezerca.
Followed by descent to the starting point where I have the car parked +23C. Seven hours of walking behind me.
The road is somewhat torn up in places by torrential waters and timber extraction.
There is quite a lot of snow in gullies and shady spots, but it can be avoided.
regards
There is still none on the planšarija.1
There are at least 50 meters of it.2
3
I choose a crumbly and quite difficult ascent - chamois have a much easier one. I discover that later.4

Planina Ravne still has no shepherd and no livestock grazing. This year everything is late.zmeden
So, no cold beer at the shepherd huts either.
We headed to Dleskovec cirque. Still quite a lot of snow. Over the wall to the top. In between some swimming in dwarf pines. Descent down the gully full of snow. Crossing to bivouac demanding.
At the bivouac the "owner" treats us to bitters. Follows quite demanding and dangerous ascent over the scree of Velika Zelenica. To Veliki vrh, descent on snowfield to Dolge trate. Past the biggest l....a of Dleskovska plateau back to cirque and to start.
Nice sunny day. Flowers waking up rapidly and making up for lost time. Quite a lot of snow and in places therefore quite demanding and dangerous!!
