Celebrations in the mountains

I moved the topic here, which was posted under Krnsko jezero.

After a sleepless night due to New Year's front with firecrackers, I decided to retreat from Bovec battlefield somewhere into normal world.
Krn Lake-morning nice clear, minus 15. Already at entrance to hut I noticed scorched snow and some launch ramps for larger caliber fireworks. At the lake almost a dump.
Torn casings of rockets, firecracker hulls, champagne corks, cigarette butts...
Sadly people go to mountains who do not enjoy charms of nature, but indulge in some modern kitsch and thus litter nature and disturb animals.
It surprised me that hut keepers of PD Nova Gorica allow all this, as part of this scene happened right in front of the hut.

Dear guest!?!?
How come you don't comment on the fact that also at the annual celebration of the end of WWI they shoot firecrackers at Krn Lake in the evening? What do the animals living there do then?
So this is yet another proof of what unchecked nonsense is spread on forums!
I announced myself only and mainly because I was present at the New Year's and it wasn't even close to what you saw, obviously with eyes after New Year's night!!!!!
What it was like for you, I don't care at all!

Dear Kotel, things like @guest describes can surely be checked. During New Year's celebration we watch fireworks, (maybe under Krn we remember poor boys who watched them for some years...), and in morning somehow no one has will to clean the dump that forms during launching: Torn rocket casings, firecracker hulls, champagne corks, cigarette butts... Sad that it's not only for New Year, but obviously also at other celebrations, which excuses no one from responsibility. To nature.

Dear Mr. Kotel

I'm glad you announced as "hero" who celebrated New Year at Krn Lake.
So that the whole thing is not "unchecked nonsense" as you claim, look at photos just part of what remained after your mountain New Year. Not everything is visible on photos, as I would have to photograph wider area. Theory that who doesn't throw cork also doesn't throw empty bottle holds - bottle just flies farther.

Annual celebrations for end of 1st world war I don't attend, because I think such celebrations with columns of people and shooting don't belong in such environment, so I can't comment on that, but I also wonder like you, what animals living there do during all that "pomp" then?

I suggest you read also law on Triglav National Park, so you know what fine would belong to you.
Article 65 reads.

(1) With fine from 1,000 to 5,000 euros punished for misdemeanor is person, if:

5. uses pyrotechnic means in natural environment and it's not for defense, protection or rescue needs or explosive means and it's not for permitted purposes (52. point first paragraph 13. article);

With mentioned law it would be good if informed also hut keepers and their mountaineering societies, as some organize celebrations in huts and would be obliged to instruct visitors about these things.

To you Mr. "Kotel" I suggest that in future don't celebrate New Year in mountains anymore, but on squares and streets, where you can mess, bang, light firecrackers and enjoy smoke from all powerful fireworks. Next day municipal service will clean after you and all like you - also on my account.

Dear Sabotin!
You are certainly not competent to judge what I am. Keep that to yourself!!!
Pictures? They could be staged, except two that can be obtained at some village pond and around it, after some party.
Law on TNP was enforced by those who have power, interest,... not to politicize. I live near its borders and everything is clear to me.
What all we who live on the edge pay, but never get anything from it? Relatively!
And at the end! Suggestion where I should celebrate New Year in future, sell to someone else or keep to yourself.

I think those cardboard casings and wine corks don't harm nature much, they decompose, because such material-NATURAL, other thing is PVC pieces.

Even if it decomposes, it doesn't belong in nature. Banging and all that sh...

I randomly went to read this topic and it actually gives me the creeps. Fireworks already bother me in the valley, let alone if they popped in nature, in the mountains, where I usually expect peace and sounds of nature. Popping because our ancestors shot there won't revive anything, especially not memories. Firecrackers are something completely different from a real war. And I really understand some Bosnians who can't hear bangs anymore, already because of fear itself, without reliving fear and horror on every anniversary.
Anyway, I doubt pyrotechnic devices, whatever form, are from completely natural materials. At least not 100%. If natural, I still don't throw it everywhere, not at home, least of all in nature. Because then it would be an even bigger landfill than it is, though natural material decomposes, but it takes time. It would look great if all mountaineers left paper bags with sandwiches or tissues on the mountains, maybe paper too, since all natural. Wonderful!

I think everyone remembers at least a bit of their childhood. We all had fear of something, darkness, noise, etc. And back then when you were scared, you froze stiff from all the bad. Now multiply that primal fear n times and maybe you'll get how animals in nature feel during New Year's party.

I sign under Turbo! But what, since none of them even thinks about it! Celebrating the end of WWI is such absurdity, as the anniversary is approaching century!
Yeah, it's celebrated exclusively so there's "party with reason", with all human nebulous add-ons...We should then celebrate Napoleon's occupation and establishment of Illyrian provinces too, since Napoleon ultimately did a lot of good for Slovenian people...

Sadly it's not about mistresses, but lack of thought about what we do to other living beings with our actions - even if allowed in this so-called legal state - and in this case in their Home. And from the first reply of the gentleman it's clear we can write a hundred pages more and it will be the same. True, sadly not about mistresses.

I usually bite my tongue in such debates rather than comment, but sometimes one has to say what's on their mind. Landfills in mountains prove pigs go to mountains too. Let everyone judge for themselves where they belong and what they can (must) do about it. In all these years of hiking I've seen so much piggery, carried a lot down to valley, but what helps when those pigs probably never reach in their heads the level of nature-friendly thinking for us.
Only night fireworks with shooting stars belong in mountains, not fireworks with deafening noise that drives scared wildlife to most hidden corners.
Slovenian Environment Agency measured in longest night, just between midnight and 1am, sudden sharp jump in air pollution. In Zagorje ob Savi it measured PM10 particles 359 µg/m³, more than double the max allowed. Plus light and other pollution. Similar everywhere else in Slovenia, world and sadly often in mountains too.
Earth as planet will surely survive our piggery, our descendants won't because of us, maybe we already. Preserving mountains and precious pieces of mountain wilderness as peace areas should be self-evident for us who go there. There one can still experience true nature contact, walk without meeting human or hearing anything but own thoughts and nature's music. The more we allow civilization to invade these last peaceful mountain parts, the rarer to hear such music...sound of golden eagle wings, smack of capercaillie, bleat of chamois sentry warning of danger, barely heard whisper of wind telling thousand-year tales from mountain kingdom instead of silent stone peaks. Our ears full of valley noise need those rare days when we go up, need time to hear those soothing sounds. No wonder many speak of deaf silence in mountains. Such thing not in nature, just seems we hear nothing because we're almost deaf.
True mountain wilderness almost gone, but somewhat unspoiled mountain nature still plenty. But with current doings it'll run out too. After all we're all litterers, just some litter others clean. Hope for good in all of us, as few first as possible. I belong to seconds, but not perfect. Memory that once I was almost ashamed to pick others' litter proves it. Today proud of it and my descendants proud too of such doings. Examples pull after all. Nature will be immensely grateful and let many generations live in it.
Nice greetings from under beautiful Golte, Janez

Maybe you didn't get my point, in fact Napoleon had a mistress in Slovenia.
I refrain from other debates.

Go to Primorska, on the coast there are such messes that there are none bigger in the world. There I'd need 10 years to clean all the filth from grass, bushes, streams....

once a pig... always a pig. no offense, but pointless to expect change of mentality of the one who pigs! Sadly that's how it is, already before me they walked and threw e.g. chocolate wrapper on the ground... Bottles and other trash left on the table in the hut... What can you do?!nasmeh They can sue you for every shit!

What? Get misdemeanor powers under ZTNP - you can become nature conservation or (easier) voluntary supervisor. Then you have legal basis and much easier to go for deserved repression. nasmeh
