Dangers that plague the mountains

Those mountaineers are somewhere on the glacier watching out for crevasses.

Igor. You probably took this somewhere on the Gross Venediger glaciers. There you can often see local guides (?) in old clothes with such poles. And if you convince people that this is okay, you've won. In case of a fall into a crevasse, the pole gets stuck above the crevasse and you hang on it like on a pole.

Interesting story to read anyway, but do these guys enjoy the mountains (everything wrong, from porridge to jota to snoring and messy hair)? We go with kids at least 10 times a year, and it's always great and we all enjoy it, it's true that no little thing throws us off track. Going to the mountains with kids is the best thing!

maybe it wasn't that bad after all Interesting writing style, probably some "little thing" is slightly exaggerated

Yes, Daaam, probably true. Otherwise it wouldn't be so interesting for the article if they didn't "a bit" exaggerate/add ...

I read the article yesterday on Siol. I didn't laugh. It didn't seem funny to me at all, more sad. And I didn't find myself in it practically in any thing, although we've been hiking in the mountains with two kids for quite a few years and still go together often. There are probably several things "wrong" for why things went differently for us. Probably a bit because I'm a sworn "neat freak" who loves order, and most of all probably the fact that I was used to all kinds of mountain trips from home, from my own childhood. Upbringing, then. As a mom, I didn't read parenting books. Because I relied on my instinct and common sense. But one thing I "swore by" was that kids love order. Because then they feel safe. Because they roughly know what to expect. And if there's order, their expectations are realistic and so no negative surprises. No bad mood or complaining. No frustrations. And that worked for us practically in all areas, including mountain trips. And don't think that nothing interesting or even exciting happened to us because of that. Some things were complete surprises. But because the "main" things were "in order" (read: we went to the mountains rested and slept, we prepared snacks together so they suited all tastes, there were treats in the backpack, we always knew where we were going, where the starting point was, how demanding and long the trail was, the girls always wanted to look at the photos in the trail description on this portal themselves, etc.), the things that happened "off plan" were more "exciting adventure" than another "unnecessary trouble" or nightmare. That's probably why our trips ended year after year with the question "where are we going next weekend"... I can't shake the feeling that the columnist wanted to be witty and interesting and "cool". In my eyes, it's not. If someone understood the article in that spirit, fine. But it's not worth imitating, really not.

GITA, excellently written, I completely agree with everything. I had the same feeling that you expressed in the last paragraph.

This article could nicely get the subtitle "how with your own unpreparedness to ruin mountaineering for your kids". Disgusting.

Yes, just like that Gita, I agree 100%, that's approximately what I wanted to say too, but you wrote it all beautifully! The cherry on top was added by 5Xum with the subtitle, it's completely true!

Some obviously haven't heard of irony yet. Or even self-irony, which is anyway unknown to the average Slovene. If it's the latter (meaning it really happened) then full marks to the author. It means she might have learned something from the whole thing. Starting with maybe not being a blind servant to her guy and the kids anymore.
