Yesterday short hop to Debela peč. Nice track to the top, little dry snow (up to 60 cm), summit even blown bare to the ground, day gorgeous. If I'm not mistaken, Viharnik was also looking for ideal ski line on this summit that day...

We two were also tempted to do a light winter walk up towards Pokljuška summits. We started from parking at Rudno polje towards Blejska koča, stopped by for hot tea, then continued first to Brda summit and then to Debela peč.
Path was somewhat frozen in the morning, later on sunny side well trodden, as downhill was quite enjoyable sliding, but in places uncomfortably sinking. Hikers almost as many as in summer (similar temperature), mostly without crampons, some with crampons, hm some even with snow chains .
So another nice and pleasant inter-holiday day.

Very friendly invitation of course I couldn't refuse and we went, although only to Debela peč and back, but we had a great time. Regarding conditions nothing much to add, as @pohodni and @kucelj already described them. Road not so critical, at least not to us, didn't slide too much, and sinking on the trampled track, which doesn't always follow the summer path, none at all. We probably had the last gorgeous and unusually warm sunny day of the year. Maybe Petra will add something

On Saturday, 21.1., repeated last year's tour, but in slightly different conditions... snow in all possible variants, on top of Debela peč almost none, because all blown away, from Brda down to the koča, where the base was breaking through - sometimes you barely pulled yourself out of some hole (yes, snowshoes?), partly icy... but views outweighed all efforts.
And safe steps.

Hello all hikers
I'm wondering if anyone has recent fresh info on how it is with the ascent to Debela peč because on Thursday a winter ascent is planned and I don't want to break fresh tracks on the paths?

@AT, being first on virgin snow is just the charm of a winter hike, of course provided there's no snow up to the last buttock and probably not on Debela peč.

I'm wondering if the pictures are from today, because on Viševnik it was very cold today, snow frozen and it was snowing.

Hi....here are Sunday's pics 26.2.2012....path nicely passable, no sinking...reached the top without crampons. Snowing in the valley, later towards the top weather improved and sunshine at the top ...at times strong cold wind was blowing, especially at the top.

Pictures are from Saturday when weather was ideal, to the top also without crampons or rather snowshoes would be more useful but of course I don't have them.
