He said he doesn't plan to start mountains in winter, guy imo aware of dangers (or we'll scare him so much here he never wants mountains again). Anyway not the point, remember our beginnings, good he's enthusiastic, good he wants mountains, now just needs someone to steer him right. With such comments not easy. Why Grintovec? Better straight to Lucifer! eek

Of course I'm aware of dangers. Luckily I have dad who did alpinism before (hobby alpinist) and won't let me rush headlong into snowy mountains. He too says you got time. Grintovec not bad choice but this year not yet maybe next mežikanje or next 100%.. This year still climb smaller hills. Gotta get out of sneakers sometime. mežikanje

Yes, young alpinist? When I was seventeen, me and buddy had already done most main ridges of Julians including "protected" paths. Didn't choose, attacked every peak without exception if there was ascent possibility.
If you'll seriously dedicate to alpinism, don't go too long in sneakers up, cuz saying goes practice makes master, especially in mountains where only regular numerous hikes count and keep you alive with experience up there. No embellishments, gifts or tactics in serious alpinism, just climbing, heartfelt connection to mountains and sense of balance between mountain and self.

LA SPORTIVA - Nepal Evo GTX/Duratherm - maybe hikes high mountains and needs them, I doubt they are meant only for climbing

Young Alpinist
I suggest that now in winter (ice axe, crampons) you try to reach e.g. Viševnik, Debelo peč, M.Mojstrovka, Veliki vrh above Kofce etc... Also lower peaks, e.g. Goli vrh above Jezersko, Tolsti vrh above Kriška, like Blegoš and Ratitovec are good tours for mileage. All these peaks are crowded, track beaten, and open huts nearby. For summer get a via ferrata set for protected climbing paths and start visiting them. From easier to harder. By autumn you will have some experience both with winter approaches and rock climbing. And if you see that mountaineering is really what you seek, join an alpinism school in autumn. Then under expert guidance step by step to the desired goal.......
Good luck and be sensible!

But keep in mind what they told us at the alpinism school: A good alpinist is a living alpinist nasmeh

Worn-out phrase. That's what some say when they climbed, were alpinists, then no more climbing and then they talk ..................

But it's true that this phrase can be used only by the living (or/and old ones), the others who are no more unfortunately (!) said what they had to say ...

everyone gets excited about the alpinism school, fewer get excited about the continuation (no. of ascents annual, winter, rock, ice...) realistically from school to title you need a couple years, then you can go further... instructor, rescuer... depending on how stubborn and annoying you are to others at the AO. young alpinist, you have whole life ahead of you, mountains will wait for you, don't rush into mountains alone (especially not in winter), have experienced "guide" with you. what seems obvious to you now can be very complicated. I advise against winter ascents this year, first see how you do on dry trails and rock. in some time you'll see how you progress, then ask yourself do I want more? that's time for AO and consequently school too. In school you'll meet community with same interests as yours, joint climbs, gatherings...
alpinism school offers you more than just hills, whole palette of knowledge and experiences. continuation isn't that simple... above all lots of time and even more time to progress to final goal-alpinist. that's just first step of continuation.

If I'm not mistaken the first Slovenian who stepped on Everest summit was Andrej Štrempfelj... and of course right behind him his rope partner, unfortunately deceased Nejc Zaplotnik right?

I'm the same age, 15 years, and I advise you to start slowly. I started hiking in the mountains in 3rd grade of elementary school. Now for some years I've been training sport climbing mežikanje and also competing. I advise you to first start with summer ascents (easy, demanding, very demanding), then start with winter ascents. Buy gear gradually as you'll need it nasmeh sign up for some šp course or šp school to start nasmeh
