Today on western ridge of Storžič. First time I noticed it, really nice experience.

It lasted several minutes, seen at multiple spots. Could watch it and photograph it.

miri, you say you saw upside-down rainbow? This phenomenon is called "smile in the sky" and rarely seen, because it appears high above us. Unlike rainbow it's not light refraction on water droplets, but through horizontally oriented ice crystals in clouds (mainly cirrus)..

Yesterday I was lucky too — before sunset, above Trento from direction of Kriških podov, rainbow (iridescent?) clouds were visible twice. Too bad no picture: http://www.atoptics.co.uk/droplets/iridim23.htm

@miri .... if you know what phenomenon it is and its name, just explain. As far as I'm concerned I see rainbows mostly below, occasionally above too. They always have mist as base for them and I call that glory nasmeh

Probably just part of the halo. "mavric" has several types, but it's true that other arcs are rarer. Check out this masterpiece from Antarctica, every part is named:

@lynx ... could be. The word *halo* probably comes from when you see this phenomenon you're totally amazed and say ... Hallooo big grin

@baqi, check the comment "biba 21. 9." maybe it's that or something similar.
