Hello, today I set off for Lisco through the village of Razbor. When I got out of the village, a hawk started flying over me. At first its behavior seemed innocent. It kept me in sight all the time and started flying towards me as if it wanted to catch prey. If I hadn't defended myself with a stick, I can only wonder what it would have done to me. I hid in the nearby forest hoping it would leave me alone. When I was returning it waited for me again. This time it flew even higher and then dived at me at high speed. I was very scared. I can thank a friendly local who drove me back to the village of Razbor. Does anyone perhaps know what the reason for such behavior was? best, Matic

I think the reason was too much alcohol, since 1. hawks are scavengers and don't hunt prey, but feed on dead animals. 2. you can see a hawk on Liska only on April 1st

You think I'm messing with you? You think I was drunk hiking to Lisce? NO! I read a bit about hawks at home and now I know they are scavengers. But I don't understand how you can see a hawk on Lisce only on April 1st. Even a local told me there are hawks and lots of them because they are protected. And it didn't attack me on Lisce but at the village Razbor. If you don't know the reason for this bird's behavior, then don't write nonsense. Waste of server space.

Yeah, they were hungry, probably hadn't caught anything for a long time so hadn't eaten.

Are you really completely sure you saw a hawk??? Wasn't it perhaps an eagle, falcon, buzzard? If it was one of those animals the reason might be that it has a nest with chicks somewhere there and judged you as a threat to them and chased you away. Hawks are supposed to live in very different environment.

Yeah, I'm increasingly less sure it was a hawk. Obviously even the friendly local doesn't exactly know which birds fly over their sky. He also told me there are lots of that species because it's protected and can't be shot. The reason that it had a nest somewhere is very understandable. Thanks a lot for the answers

Horrible! I would have "shit myself" from terror if something like that happened to me. I really don't know why? Maybe there really is a nest nearby.

What attacked you was our most common bird of prey - the buzzard (Buteo buteo). We most often see them circling over fields and hear their sharp 'kiaa kiaa' high above us. They are completely harmless (even to our chickens despite the general belief - the only birds of prey here that can carry off a hen are the golden eagle and the sparrowhawk), but they can be quite aggressive when defending the nest. You probably unknowingly came near the nest, and the caring mother just wanted to chase you away from the chicks. Otherwise it must have looked terrible to you, but it almost certainly wouldn't have hurt you, just wanted to scare you. more description: http://www.kpss.si/gospodarjineba/122

I would be afraid of those birds too.

Matic, you made a big mistake hiding in the forest. A bear could have attacked you there. Next time be careful where you hide. Best

Definitely an event that happens very rarely. What "happened" to the bird doesn't matter. In just a week it will remain only a nice memory of a primal adventure and it will stay that way. That's why I go to the mountains too.

Now I'm just laughing about this event anyway. But at that moment I wasn't indifferent when the little bird was swooshing over my head. It was really strange to me that it gained height with the wind, then folded its wings against itself and aimed directly at me. Too bad I didn't record this event with the camera, it would be more believable for some.

Goshawk is a bird of prey from the hawks family (from Wikipedia). A Goshawk also chased me today in the forest at the Motocross near Šentvid near Stična (near Ivančna Gorica). A local told me it's a Goshawk and it can chase but he hasn't heard of it actually attacking anyone. Maybe it wasn't really an attack since it really didn't injure or touch me, but it effectively chased, followed and flew over me. Because of this I suspect it might not have been a Goshawk but a Sparrowhawk, which can attack humans when defending the nest(http://www.gnezdilnice.si/index.php?path=kragulj). More precisely, if it was a Sparrowhawk then it was a young Sparrowhawk, light brown color, older ones gray. Goshawk can also be light brown. During the flyovers the Goshawk/sparrowhawk was screaming and very loud all the time. It was very persistent and by my estimate followed me around 1.5 km, flew low over me around 700 m so I had to duck. When I walked or ran forward it flew over me from tree on left side to tree on right side. Flew over me from behind and then again in front of me once on left then on right. Zig-zag flyover it used for a long time persistently. True, it didn't attack me in the end, but with its persistent zig-zag flyovers it convinced me it would be ready to attack too. Wonder how to react if it happens to me again? Because of this I wouldn't give up my walks in the nearby forest.

it won't attack you. you react like this time. you go where you don't disturb it anymore.

I think it's best to stay home and watch TV, since the world outside is SO VERY dangerous - hawks everywhere, bears, wolves ... Horror! I don't know why the state doesn't just exterminate these scum so we can walk peacefully in nature.
