I got the book by Andrej Praznik "Mountain Hikes for 4 Seasons" in which many beautiful hikes suitable for families with children are described.

Browse a bit through the described hikes on this site and if you notice one is not among them yet, describe it briefly similarly and post it on the Family Hikes forum so we can share it with you. LP Andre

The book With Children to the Mountains is a great help to us. With three girls who are currently 5, 8 and 10 years old, we hike diligently to the mountains all year, even in winter. This winter we were on Blegoš, Smrekovec, Košenjak, Šmohor and Krn Lake. I would recommend these paths in snow to more experienced families. But we always pay attention to the conditions and state of the path. We also use such forums for that.
Lots of enjoyment, Špela

Keep going to the mountains diligently with children while they still want to go with you. We too have covered 80% of the book With Children to the Mountains. Where the book opened - there we went. On the way we read little stories, the route plan and prepared for reaching the goal. Really excellent book! Now the children have grown and don't want to go anywhere. To hike uphill somewhere - hello?? So enjoy with the little ones and take them to all possible peaks! LP Milena

My kids do go, we also have the book: Kekčeve poti
and
Fairy Tale Paths of Slovenia

about when they don't want to go anymore, is something else, because if they have to, they definitely won't go.
Everything depends on how you present the hills or mountains to them and what you do in betweennasmeh

To me it doesn't seem everything depends on parents. In my opinion at least half depends on genes, the other half is shared by parents and environment. You have to be quite lucky that teenagers like to go to the mountains.

I count myself as young, but I'll turn only 25 this year. Before I hadn't sniffed the mountains until age 20. Then I just felt that the mountains pull me very very much and now I hike regularly as time allows and training doesn't hinder me. I can hardly wait for the alpinism course and climbing. Many young people climb, so they indirectly get to know the walls and our mountains. It suits some, not others. Some go up because of company, others just out of curiosity. But never force anyone.

good luck

To me too, until about the age of twenty, walking in the mountains seemed silly; since then I would gladly go every week. I sometimes force my children a bit and I'm convinced they will hike later or not - independently of whether they sometimes went unwillingly. Forcing in childhood is just the easiest excuse for those who simply aren't for it.

well, my and husband's parents simply never felt like it, neither on foot nor by bike,..
so we have very little in genes, almost nothing

maybe they enthused me a bit in high school and consequently of course I also enthused my husband

now with teenagers we have no problems, usually by Thursday they decide where on Sunday or weekend,
I hope it stays like that at least a while, although sometimes we wish for some peacenasmeh

I noticed the mountains only in my forties and I like to go whenever time allows. Now I also take my grandchildren on easier hikes and they like to go but we always have an activity program on the way. And it has always been pleasant. I enthused some friends for hiking in the mountains too, but their enthusiasm soon faded.

You will surely find something useful also in the books by Janez Mihevc Path under Feet or Vladimir Habjan Natural Sights of Slovenia.

Currently we're also looking through the book

Kekec's Trails

a bit different, but still useful

very interestingly presented outings
we're summarizing impressions of a trip, which isn't really mountainous, but is extremely educational for children and others too
We visited the Soča outflow into the sea
wonderful park, you can stroll through it for a day or two, lots of animals and various vegetation
I recommend the book
and the trip too

Soon we'd like a family outing. If someone can suggest an interesting trail and current conditions, we'd be very happy. Thanks.

It would also be easier if you mentioned a bit in which part of Slovenia your family trip would take place. As well as what your experiences, abilities and wishes are??
The more description, the easier to advise..

We'd like to go to Krn Lake, but we don't know what the current weather conditions are (snow, frozen, ...)
Fitness-wise the kids are well prepared for up to 2 hours of walking (one way).
We planned the hike for the second week of holidays.
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry, I can't tell you the desired data, but for consideration look at this picture, you'll see possible conditions: The picture is snow conditions statistics in April a bit above the upper cargo cableway station. Good luck!!
