Didn't find suitable thread, this fits best - where to check which hills/mountains around here have most chance to meet bear? Surely known, or hunters track it?
I'd avoid such then, cos real paranoia gives me about meeting bear. Often go alone to hills (say up to 100 km from Coast); so don't go to Golake cos bears sighted there...

Everyone fears (the) bear, then some thousand times smaller critter sends us to hospital or even to bed.
Just go to Golake, otherwise won't experience beauties of this range.

Miri, fear ruins the vibe for me  When hiking, if I think bears might be here, I go on but stiff from fear... Even telling myself bear surely not waiting just for me, it ruins the feeling. Bit silly I agree, but at least on trails with no bears for sure I'd like to hike relaxed.... And I'd like to find those out.
To Golake when I have company

About bears written on many sites, LZS, ARSO, ČZS and others. In PDFs also researches. Problem can arise when meeting bear mother with cubs... I'm more scared of snake encounter...

Scares me because written lots of bears in our forests:
most likely bear encounter on wooded area along Slovenian-Croatian border between Notranjski Snežnik and Javorniki, Nanos and Hrušica west and northwest, behind highway Logatec – Novo mesto north and road Novo mesto to Črnomelj east.
Best would be hiking to high mountains, but for coastal folks that's surely 150-200 km drive one way...

After all I've heard and read about bear danger I formed opinion that where danger exists it's good to be loud, give signs you're there. But if you meet it, think you should quiet down or retreat and not provoke. Would be interesting if someone who met it on hiking trails writes us. I hope this "luck" never hits me! Even the thought bear was present few days ago scares bones, like tracks in snow. Couldn't continue trail, would paralyze me completely.

Bear usually retreats before our human race because we stink tremendously to him. Only consequence of bear encounter is usually need to change pants.

SamoK: probably there's a simpler explanation behind it, that they just have a good, better developed sense of smell. That's much easier to check scientifically.  Certainly humans have a characteristic chemical scent and it's just a matter of good detection to distinguish it from the deer's scent.
