Why do years fly by so fast? I'm afraid that in ten, twenty years I won't be able to go anywhere anymore. What hobby should I come up with then to replace hiking in the mountains, where I'm immeasurably happy and I enjoy? Should I start drinking, going to church, learning English?? The only 'stationary' hobby I have is solving crosswords, if at least my head stays sharp, but I'm afraid covid already had a hand in it.
No whining, let's go to the mountains.
Let me list some dry numbers, which of course don't show all my 'physical' activities.
71 visits to Velika planina (of course from the bottom)
67 mountain or hill peaks, some of them multiple times.
27 organized running races, most of them mountain ones.
Total in calendar year '23 178 km vertical.
Luck and health to all lovers of mountains and alpine pastures in 2024, and may we meet there sometime.

I'm not forcing the inventory, but the New Year always reminds me of 44 years of work in the shop.
Unfortunately, the plan was not fulfilled neither in conquered peaks nor in total height gain. I console myself with excuses for a good month of rest due to the knee 'boycott', non-working cable car on (s) Kanin, road closures and absurd parking fee increases, as well as a bit longer vacation in southern areas. Despite a slightly smaller harvest, I immensely enjoyed the mountains, be it on demanding climbing tours or ski hill runs. Well, at least I surpassed one personal record: the conquest of 28 Slovenian 2500ers. I counted 40 other lower peaks, exactly 50x on the top of my mountain - Velika Planina. For 2024 I thus calculated 154 km vertical.
I don't dare set plans, at least a hundred should be the lower limit for next year.
Let me use this writing to wish all lovers of mountains and nature a happy, successful and above all healthy New Year 2025.

The topic was so deep down that I barely found it. Of course, order is order, since the year has come full circle, where through various notes I relive beautiful mountain moments. An app helps me too, where I log visited peaks up to date. I have been using it for several years. https://www.peakbagger.com/climber/climblistc.aspx?cid=32409 Covid and injury are long behind, sadly a new plague has spread - road closures and expensive parking fees. Everyone copes in their own way of course. Youngsters have no problem walking nice flat roads to the trailhead, rich ones pay expensive parking fees. I solved it by slightly 'stretching' the day and it mostly paid off nicely. Sadly my unconquered two-thousanders are stagnating, good half of them are in Kanin mountains and until the cable car or hut is made operational, it will stay like this forever. In 90% I solo, thus not burdening anyone with pace, driving, tavern, overnight, and of course safety, as 'veteran' I feel moral responsibility to the younger.
I made a little typing mistake
Here is the inventory:
66x to Velika Planina
28 two-thousanders,
20x under two thousand, most often goal of mountain races, which I immensely enjoy.
Glad that as a šodrovec I'm still able to visit Ponce, Oltar and Rokava, which are planned for this year too.
And total vertical - 169 kilometers.

Legendary hutkeeper Francl from the hut under Špička wrote (picture). For me the time has come for manageable hillocks with not too many elevation meters. Therefore I thank all who post pictures and comments from your hikes, with which I can relive memories.

I remember how we slept there on shared bunks, the older couple had marital bedroom-separated from us by a transparent curtain. For reveille he played harmonica in the morning, for departure he whistled and waved a little shovel like a station master. Quite some boulders around there were inscribed with similar wisdoms
