Today hikers of Thursday retirees group PD Škofja Loka went to lesser known Notranjsko hills world. Located southeast of Črni vrh. Forested peak. At top wooden observation tower renovated. Climb ladders to top. Wonderful view at top. Even found stamp. No logbook box seen. Then descended to nearby Pirnatova hut on Javornik-1156m opened just for us. Otherwise open weekends. From there to valley. As always treat. This time in Podkraj at Stara pošta inn with interesting Roman period museum. Roman road passed here. Place had fortified station with church-built only after Roman Empire fall. Last bastion of empire. Still visible remains of defensive wall, tower remains.

Start in the village Črni vrh above Idrija.

The path to the summit runs continuously through the forest and is well marked.

We walk past pastures with grazing livestock.

We view the museum, which is in this inn.

It depicts the time of Rome in these areas.

Remains of the defensive wall around the outpost, which was as high as three meters.

Yesterday on SPP trail from Cola to Veliki Javornik above Črni vrh. Southern approach so paths mostly dry without features. Valley full of spring flowers, higher patches of snow. Top windy from south. Despite clouds view to Triglav mežikanje

After refreshment at Pirnatova hut descended to Podkraj. Shorter path but forest still snowy, partly muddy mrk pogled

. Total about 17 km velik nasmeh

Yesterday short walk from Kanjeg dol to Javornik top. Pleasant, even some sun. Not planned, we were there completely by chance.

At the hut quite a few visitors, even accordion was playing

Last day of November. Javornik isn't even high. And snow beautifies the path. Snow-covered spruces accompany you. Every now and then snow pours from the branches. Wind is at home here. Known path. We've walked here in snow before. Already at the start it was powdery. We made a track all the way to the top. If the wind doesn't smooth it out. At Pirnatova hut we met the caretaker. They are open on weekends. Minus two degrees showed the thermometer on the path. On descent the wind picked up. And cooled down. Otherwise a really nice tour in snowy whiteness.

Life is subject to eternal change, like the seasons. Winter lasts as long as it lasts and what can we change about that. No need to worry, spring will surely come and summer after it. The emergence of the eternally new touches us constantly. The more we surrender to it, the more spring there is in us. We are all under the burden of winter and try to drown it in our own spring, instead of being just a seed in winter time. That it doesn't work, we see only when winter presses so hard that trunks crack and roots freeze, when branches break. (That's what Andrej G. says.) Somehow we knew that on Saturday 21.01. we wouldn't reach the top. But that there would be so much snow already at the start of the path, no. Real winter. We were trudging for two and a half hours, as it says to the top. Then decided to turn back. No problem. Everything waits. Anyway an interesting tour where the wind had the main word, carrying snow.

But only a small part, because their owner turned back. Probably the snow didn't hold. Or it was too cold for him. We left the car in Bela, because in Podkraj you had nowhere to leave it. Good that there was an ice axe in the car, so we could remove the ice from under the wheels, otherwise you can't drive off.

Javornik-Sovdatov vrh-Čelkov vrh-Velika peč

I read that Javornik somehow represents the edge of the Trnovo forest. But that has a touch of something solitary, mysterious,
something where you can ultimately meet a bear too. That's why we chose Sunday for the hike, so there would be more people on the path. But there were the most in Pirnatova hut, some below the summit of Javornik.

Our starting point was a little above Črni vrh. Via Šajsna Ravni first to the hut, to warm up a bit with tea and cracklings and prepare for the winter ascent to Javornik summit. There the tower was so icy that higher than the first floor wasn't possible and probably the predecessors didn't go either.
Continuing we climbed first to Sovdatov vrh, then in the second part of the path also to Čelkov vrh and Velika peč, where markings lead you too. A bit rarer to Velika peč, where you have to find the right approach to the summit and it's from the right side. But before that of course at the houses there you have to step straight across the meadow and then you surely find that summit.

On the way back while driving we were greatly delighted above Godovič by a flock of cranes that was on migration path and that in NE direction. Really a miracle of nature!
