On Saturday I went to Jelenk via the climbing path through Kendove robe. Interesting that on this portal (except path descriptions) there's nothing written about it. No comments, trip reports,... Had to search the internet quite a bit for some info. Seems the hill isn't such a popular hiking spot, nor the nicely routed ferrata through Kendove robe. Unjustly in my opinion. Didn't meet anyone on the climbing ascent or easier descent either. Park at the parking lot in Spodnja Idrija and set off. Path is well marked and signposted. Past an isolated farm then across a clearing to the junction (easier, very demanding path). Go right to very demanding path. After about 15 min cables start. Put on gear there. After crossing and easy ascent cables end temporarily and a somewhat steeper ascent follows to the summit register box. There look left and - path goes almost vertically up about a 20 m high rock. Ascent steeper than it looks in photos on this portal's description. But rock is grippy enough and that one peg is superfluous. Then some easy cables and final ascent about 5 m before which I hesitate how to climb but luckily see pegs in the rock. After climbing the last part soon reach viewpoint. From there walk through forest for a while. Path is a bit harder to follow there, need to watch marks more carefully. Finally out of forest to gravel road. Marked path goes past some farm. At this farm dog attacks me, chase it away with taser shot (without touching it). Owner just nonchalantly looks after me. No 'sorry' - nothing... As usual, email about incident already sent to local police, hope owner stops (will report if police replies). It's the farm in pic 38 in path description through Kendove robe on this portal. Continue past 'normal' junction and into forest and when out of forest past another farm. Then bit more on road and - summit is here. Simply a bit above forest road in clearing above farm - bench with stamp really saying 'Jelenk' and logbook. Well, such a 'summit' never seen. Take break and head back. On way back after about 5 min chat with two locals then continue down easier path. Past nice brook, then clearing past another farm and back to forest where don't notice original junction and already back at starting isolated farm. From there about 20 min to parking. Then went to mining museum at Idrija castle - they had local chamois calling championship. It was over but still enjoyed good goulash (3 EUR) and beer. Then short walk around Idrija which I must say is very well set up tourist-wise, calmly European level.

http://www.hribi.net/gora/jelenk/21/835 @VanSims, if you had gone to Jelenk one day later, you would have come to the "hustle". On Pentecost Sunday there is in fact a traditional hike up there for many years already. Nice in our parts, eh?

Interesting tour. Will remember and save for Oct-Nov when Becar slowly parts from high mountains.

Hello! Maybe someone remembers? Used to hike through Kendove robe in the Berkmandlc action. Organized from Idrija.

I remember, but think it was part of Pentecost hike. Also bike ascent and run existed a couple of years ago under Grča club. Seems the driving force that "drives" such events forward is missing.

Yes, miri really that force is missing. But back then it was really nice socializing with other hikers.

Interesting, this Jelenk, no people etc., but it's quite good for building fitness. Though what will stick most in my memory is that there was a telephone cable instead of steel cables

@matdra, not telephone, but friendlier. But you see you can make a path with less money that's still safe. Come through Robe when avrikelj blooms. Then you won't notice the cable.

The fact that the weather these days keeps inventing something and five minutes ahead doesn't know whether it would prefer wet or dry, sunny or cloudy or maybe foggy, of course is no reason for a person to stay home. But such days are perfect for us to see something new, some little thing that on a gorgeous, clear, sunny day wouldn't come up... and on such a day when there's not much to see far on the horizon, you involuntarily notice how fern sprouts in spring, and that dead nettle also has a really nice flower, ... and much more... :) So yesterday we went to Jelenk. To visit the hepaticas, we said. Well, of the numerous "beautiful" - primroses (see the photo above from @miri) almost none were home (read: almost all have bloomed out), but we were happy to meet our endemic – Kranj hepatica, which we saw for the first time. Both paths (both the more demanding one through Kendove robe and the other easier one) despite the great damage that the ice storm also caused in these parts, are quite well cleared. Except for a few "bends" and here and there a somewhat higher step, they don't require special effort in terms of overcoming obstacles. Completely different is the marked 10-minute extension from the summit to the viewpoint. Already the local who was sawing fallen trees on Jelenk warned us that further on it's "like a bomb exploded" . Since it's really a short extension, we went anyway, although those ten minutes stretched to twenty... It was a pleasant "jump" into areas hitherto unknown to us... we walked enough (good 800 elevation meters in the ascent), saw a lot of beautiful things, enjoyed the solitude of the path, and the weather even "cooperated" and stayed dry just until we returned to the car .

Seems nature wanted to repay us for the ice storm so hurried a bit with the little flowers.

Gita, thanks! Really thanks for the playful description of your outing and bouquet of flowers you "picked" also for us who stayed home. I gladly added a thumbs-up to each photo. To the black bug I'd give two, but can't. Friendly regards and safe steps.

Thanks for info. I believe yes, there's more too. But there are very few peaks around here on letter J that also have a stamp. I was this year on Jerebica, no stamp on the summit, although in the mountains description and Jerebica description it says stamp is on the summit.
