"Steepness is my virtue" said the princess, engaged four-by-four and the reducer, and dug into the slope. So steep that it couldn't be steeper, if at all, almost vertical. I gave all of myself, all 120% as top athletes say, to manage to follow her closely on her heels all the way to Tilčev rovt, where she took pity on me and slowed down. How far back my last visit to Jerebikovec goes is shown by the fact that I was sitting in the bivouac then and tethered my soul in shelter. At the top I panted and looked around, but didn't see much, the surrounding mountains were hidden in clouds, which strikes me that EMŠO at least to some extent over time really makes steep paths steeper and high mountains even higher. The princess is spared these worries, since there's no "EMŠO" field in the dog passport. The path itself was without peculiarities, during the tour we met no one, the weather was sunny in our part, mushrooms along the path so many different ones that it quite melted my heart because I don't know them. When we forget the steepness, we'll come back for the views. nasmeh

Today my colleague and I conquered Jerebikovec, which is the highest peak of Mežakla. We started in Radovna at Lake Kreda. From Radovna there is no marked path to Jerebikovec. So you have to look for old abandoned cart tracks. Half of the almost three-and-a-half-hour ascent also goes on nice well-maintained mountain roads. A bit before the large pasture and quite a few objects it also went on very steep pathless terrain. From that apparent rovt there are no more problems. The path along the rocky ridge is not marked. But it's well trodden and about half an hour along the forest road from that unknown rovt or alpine pasture to me a signpost directs us left to the ridge. The path is slightly snowy, but doesn't cause us problems. Suddenly we find ourselves on the extensive flat top of Jerebikovec. The wooden bivouac hasn't been there for some time. But they have cleared the base of the peak well of tall trees so an unforgettable view of the snow-covered highest peaks of the Julians with Triglav at the head awaited us. It was wonderful. All the effort was richly rewarded. We returned down to the forest road along the marked path and then past Planina Ravne and Planina Zgornji Kozjek back to cold Radovna.

Yesterday, not too early, I set off for Jerebikovec. The initially dry path soon changed to lightly whitened, but after 10 minutes of walking it was already whitened with snow. Snow mixed with leaves is a real nerve test velik nasmeh, as with every step it slid more and more zadrega. Above the bench I put on crampons, which I took off only later a bit above the start.
When I stepped onto the flat at the monument, instead of through Tilčev rovt I veered right along the sharp and sheer ridge sprinkled with drifted snow, where it occasionally sank deeply zadrega. I soon reached the viewpoint. Before the summit was cleared, I always went past here for views of the Julians. That was practically the only spot for a nice photo. I was a bit surprised, as I noticed new clearings and later at the top where they cleared quite some undergrowth.
From the viewpoint I walked a bit down a bit up, then descended to Tilčev rovt where a one- or two-day-old track of the predecessor ended. Obviously those last few minutes of steep didn't smell good to him velik nasmeh. From there almost the whole ridge was blown clean. Only occasional drifts took my track. At the top ca. 20 cm snow, views as said, since clearing the summit, wonderful.
I descended the ascent route just to avoid the left ascent in Tilčev rovt to the viewpoint, but took the predecessor's track directly to the monument, then my own to the start.
Crampons came in very handy nasmeh.

This morning along the marked path from the Mojstrana - Radovna road past Tilčev rovt and back.

Since Aladin predicted another short clear window, the great views presented by Parkeljc yesterday tempted me. Although it was raining around Naklo on the highway, shortly before 8 in Mojstrana the sun was already peeking. The steep carriageway was snow-covered with about a cm of snow from the start. A few cm of white higher up provided just enough support for fairly comfortable walking. By the monument enough snow had accumulated that I put on my gaiters. Luckily it also covered the leaves that annoyed Parkeljc.

Above Tilčev rovt snow noticeably increased almost every step. At the top I trampled a small spot, from bottom to edge at least 40 cm snow.

Views though, as if nature was playing. Once a hazy window opened briefly to Stenar, closed, then to Kepa, next the show continued to Kot and the valley Za Cmirom and so on. I gaped around to catch all bits of this great spectacle, but it ended quickly. Aladin closed the window, I stood on the fog-shrouded summit.

Descent wasn't too bad either, even the leaves felt under the snow didn't slip too much. Mojstrana was sunlit. Warm by the road, so snow on lower carriageway melted fast.

About a hundred elevation meters above the road the snow is already much more than one centimeter.1
Sun below the Mežakla pasture.2
Everywhere the most elemental solitude and one single untouched whiteness.3
Misty veils were not the best sign.4
Already before Tilčev rov one had to wade quite substantially.5
Jerebikovec 30 min pure nonsense.6
Small ridge below the summit.7
On the summit there is considerably more snow than two days ago when Parkeljc visited it.8
Nature staged a misty spectacle of heavenly beauties.9

Jerebikovec, 7.6.... The path was mostly wet and slippery. Fog and bird song kept me company. Lots of different chirping, but I don't know them. At the top I had views of the mountains just for a moment, then they veiled in mists. Sea of mists, that's beautiful too. Something happening below the edge, maybe new bivouac? Path still steep and you get good exercise to reach the top.nasmeh

In the lower part of the path and at Tilčev rovt there are some fallen trees on the path but it's passable. At the top a pleasant wind was blowing, no people, super views. Best

Yesterday morning this "viewpoint" was quite a good choice. The sky was clear only for a few moments, but there was more joy on the way from Mojstrana.
Snow starts above 1100m, frozen, so crampons were a welcome part of the gear.mežikanje In the lower part, especially on descent, skills for sliding on wet leaves, roots and mud were welcome.nasmeh

You posted under Karawanks, probably you're interested in the one in the Julian Alps and not that above Korensko Saddle?
On PZS pages the marked trail to "Julian" Jerebikovec is still marked as closed.

Otherwise unmarked (hunters') paths and trails from Radovna lead to it, but conditions are wintry.

Yes, of course, the other side.... my mistake.
Can one reach it from Mežakla too?

djimuzl28. 11. 2025 19:02:52
There it's the easiest, but the starting point is quite far - don't know how far the gravel road from Gorje side goes. To Laz surely gravel, then good 10 km or more - to the other end of Mežakla. Forest roads and tracks bring right below Jerebikovec summit.
