Nice weather lured me into the high mountains yesterday. After a few-year cable car break with Neža and Rajko, we start at seven with the first gondola towards the 2200m high D station. We warm up a bit to Dom Petra Skalarja, since mainly descent to the peaks awaits us in the next hours, which were roughly planned for that day. The hut isn't operating yet, I sent the companions to nearby Konjc, I enjoyed the beautiful views. We conquered quite a few peaks, mostly first-time, but we had a time limit, as the last gondola leaves at five. On the return to the Dom, I missed (lost) the path on the Podi, so I got terribly exhausted through screes and ascents. Finally I hit the trail and the battle for time began. Since we're all in pretty good condition, we were at the cable car 15 min. before the last ride.
Today's goal was conquering lower, less important and almost unknown peaks in the Kanin range. Let me note that this range has more two-thousanders than the entire Kamnik-Savinja Alps together. Besides Kanin, Prestreljenik, Lopa and maybe Črnelske Špice, the other hills are more or less unknown. On the map they have contour and name, to most no path, no markers on top, so for such exploration you need to be equipped with maps, altimeters, fitness, nice weather...
First we stepped onto Velika Gnila glava, where there was already the first hitch. Height on wristwatch and road Garmin exactly showed on the neighboring hill, not the one with the huge cairn. Also for the second hill (Mala Gnila glava), we went to one hill in vain for a stroll, as the real one was next. On the third peak, Kačarjeva Glava we stepped without searching. Continued south, where we stepped on the more respected peak Veliki Babanski Skedenj, which had even a box with logbook. From it we head west to again lesser known peaks Vrh Žlebi and Kamen, where height on maps deviated from both my devices by 20 meters. If anyone goes up, please check yourself. The real treat was the climbing fun of good hundred meters to Vrh Laške Planje, where we had to turn back, as continuing to Kanin wouldn't fit time. Descended to Turn pod Laško Planjo, where, as mentioned at start, later I ran out of path on Podi and accidentally visited Mala Gnila glava again...
To Kanin Podi really only in 100% nice weather and with some hour reserve.

Tone, I also roamed these parts this year and heights deviated from altimeter just like yours. When I go to Kamen this year, I'll report the height deviation. How demanding is the climbing from Kamen to Vrh Laške Planje? I'll do it in reverse direction as this year I already did the ridge from Laška Planja to Kanin.

Super, Matjaž! Because 20m is absolutely too much deviation. I suggest ascent from south, if you don't hate pathless terrain too much. In nice weather leave the path near Kačarjeva glava, Veliki Babanski Skedenj is prominent landmark, and Velika Baba is quite visible from Podi, so head to saddle Med Baban and there follow the ridge northwards. The route is newly nicely marked with large red full triangles, nowhere exceeding I. difficulty grade. We didn't go to saddle Med Baban but freely Prešeren-style and steep slope reached the mentioned marked path somewhere in the middle between saddle and Vrh Žlebi. The following good 100 height meters to Laška Planja are also easy and I at least really enjoyed the ascent.

These are expanses! It must be insanely nice hopping from one peaklet to another...

Comment on heights - GPS system (without decoder) allows height accuracy of ca 40-50 m; modern navigation aids, including Garmins, Suuntos, Polars and all our phones, cleverly solve this with time averaging, theoretically reaching ca 5 m height accuracy; each company has its algorithm, but keep in mind it continuously corrects the reference, even while we move. I wouldn't expect more than 10-20 m accuracy, close to your observations. Better match is more luck than real accuracy. Especially in places where you can't see more than 4 satellites at once (bases of north faces here). On the other hand barometer and correction formulas can determine height to 5 m in stable weather, but if weather changes fast, misses by over 200 m. Together they allow more stable height determination, but not better than 5 m in ideal cases.

When Galileo starts, we'll get 1 m accuracy too nasmeh

Otherwise nice tour @lijaneja. I was two years ago on both skedenji then to Med Baban (anyway to get to ridge really no other than free Prešeren style nasmeh

) and on to Vrh Laške Planje and back to Gozdec or car.

Yeah probably known that the path from Med Baban on to VLP is the so-called Ta Visoka Rosajanska, which to VLP really nowhere exceeds first grade. Glad it's newly marked, hope the harder part (supposedly up to -III) from VLP to Kanin too, as that part awaits me!

A month ago, when hiking from Vrh Laške Planje to Kanin, the path was marked with faded triangles, but still followable. Yesterday I walked the part from Vrh Laške Planje to Velika Baba then to Veliki Babanjski skedenj and via mulattiera to B station. The path is now completely newly marked with red triangles, same looks the part to Kanin. On the hardest passage to Vrh Žlebi completely new fixed rope and some pegs. Hardest passage towards Kanin is descent from Črni Vogel, but I think doesn't exceed II. grade.

Picture 27 is taken from Veliki Babanski Skedenj and directed left of the mentioned Baba. Under the picture I didn't dare write, but I think those are the nice grassy paths on Ojstrk and Skutnik.
On 40 I also think it's our Zvon up there. nasmeh

Mali B. Skedenj doesn't attract me, it's 37m too low velik nasmeh

, to Baba we didn't go due to time limitation, anyway need to go there again, as I'm not clear which peaklet is Kamen (which has problematic height noted together with Vrh Žlebi).
Rosajansko towards Kanin I did years ago, the hard part you mention is no more than a good II, as Matjaž confirms.

Does maybe someone know if they fixed any protections or renewed faded markings towards the hut Petra Skalarja and Visoki Kanin.

They repaired the fixed protections towards the hut this year, markings to the hut are completely OK too. Towards Visoki Kanin markings and protections are also in good condition. Meanwhile on Kanin Plateaus markings are more of a mess since you easily miss some.

On Saturday it was a day for conquering peaks on the impenetrable Kanin Plateaus. Start from D station where in less than half an hour at Petra Skalar hut. Descend a couple minutes along marked path then at right spot turn right towards Mali Talir. Soon after I get completely tangled as snow tongue leads me wrong way. After half hour finally spot the right path and continue without trouble to Mali Talir summit. Continuation to Veliki Talir also clear and not too hard. Next was Visoka glava. A bit below summit small not too hard jump. Descend gully to snow tongues where quickly on marked path follow to junction Glav v Laštah then summit. Time pressing hard (4pm last cable car from B station) but still decide for quick to Zelene Čuklje near Veliki Babanjski skedenj. Next was peak Glava nad Jezerci. Somehow manage to mulattiera under Veliki Babanjski skedenj hasty descend to B station. Miss last ride by 5 mins so descend valley to A station. On way to plateaus still quite some snow but mainly eases descents. But great caution needed as full of sinkholes everywhere.

On Friday, 4 March. Wandering on the Kanin Plateaus and to Kačarjeva glava (2030 m). By car to B cable car station and then another kilometre further to the bend where the road turns right to C station. Further on, the road is snow-covered.

Consolidated snow starts on the path around 1400 m; in the morning frozen crust, during the day it softens. Above GRS Bivouac (1811 m) mostly crusty and breaks through well above the boot, here and there to the knee. Numerous rocks stick out of the snow, some cairns nicely visible. At this altitude and higher, not softened. Otherwise very little for this time (bivouac completely "bare", roof almost unsnowed). About half-covered holes and sinkholes, better not to talk. Need to be cautious.

Though breaking through, had crampons mostly on. Below, expecting harder snow; above, due to windblown sections nasty without crampons.

Windy and quite cold.

At Kluže, where recently full road closure multiple times daily, signs informing about closure knocked down. Road alternately passable, it seems, the whole day.
