Prominent hill next to Čemšeniška planina, long observed and planned during nearby trips. Ascent to the ridge and descent from it is probably easier from Zahomce valley, I tackled it from Zaplaninščica valley. Start under motorway viaduct, cross stream at suitable spot and steeply up to ridge top. Along ridge pick up path or trail and follow shady ridge. Lower section has several rocky jumps with trodden bypasses. Ridge demands good balance on narrow parts. Upper part surprises with grassy ridge section, summit indistinct. Descent scouted on Čemšeniška planina trip, can be harder part. Descend other side along ridge to saddle before next rock jump. Follow steep cluttered gullies down first left then right edge. Lower slightly right to forest ride dropping to marked path by road back. Loop takes under three hours, half each direction. Impressions: recommend. Despite modest height, hill not to underestimate (demanding ridge sections, optional easier scramble). If fitness lacking, path tires well.

Nice tour you did! Lately I hike with wishes for you Idea remained from Zahomec side, where approach to ridge is much easier (along comfortable forest ride or right to start by characteristic mobile transmitter). On ridge some orthodox parts remained for me, but there rock stays in hands and doesn't offer special pleasure. And also hurricane wind blew through me and moved me like pig.. in sack. The path however much more trodden than year ago Below summit I turned left down along trail. It's nicely laid and lower offers more options. First I chose direction towards Predanci, little break under Black peak (702m). Turned around Kozica to saddle under Čemšenika pasture, where narrow passage through farmyards didn't appeal to me, so I abandoned idea of Old castle. Returned via orientationally quite complicated variants (Starine), to explore also branch of path back to valley above mini village Ravne. Last parts (bends) I walked on road. best

andi2 I have one more idea that I'd like to realize this month. Then the deciduous will dress up, ticks will come even more alive and I'll give peace to these parts until late autumn. best and many more successful explorations!

Nice, I was also several times at the remains, locals know to tell that quite some of that building material is in some wall of old pigsty or shed Geppo, there on Gradišče ridge, the farm was abandoned in 1950, spring on W side, orchard, vineyard, three main buildings, now they have house on slope under cemetery, a bit out of Prebold center! nice regards

Interesting then I pretty much correctly figured out the number of buildings. For the spring I checked again when crossing the ridge from Škrabarjev vrh to Gradišče. On the W side a rocky oval looked like it could be the spring, now buried with soil and leaves. When I hike this ridge again, I'll inspect it more closely. regards to both

Where can I most easily find the path to the Kozica summit if I descend from Čemšeniška planina to Presedlje? I assume I need to go down the road a bit further to the first farm?

From this side no path to Kozica - pathless approach. Either direct from Presedlje up best passages (steep, rocky) or right along ride past farm to main ridge (drops toward Stari grad). Main ridge cut several times and not necessarily easy. Path approach (unmarked, easy/partly demanding) in above descriptions. regards

Direct variant from highway along ridge with occasional easy scramble looks like a good trip idea. What about down? Return same path, someone above mentions trail under summit left, on pespoti.si some paths drawn 150m lower right? I like bushwhacking straight up, while for down usually seek easiest comfiest variants if possible in conditions.

andi2, if I got your descriptions right, you made the path marked with the blue line?

What do you think of this path?

Yes, my path from 17.3.2019 is pretty well drawn. Corrections - approximately at the spot where the elevation 965m and triangle are marked, a path branches left downhill, which mostly fades into the forest at the end. But you are already close enough to connect to Črni vrh (my visit - red, then all the way to the Čevel farm) or to Ravne. Then I returned (picture 4) at the lower junction to the left, where the path persists for a long time along the slope marked Starine (past the hunting observatory), then it gets lost again shortly before the ridge by which we usually ascend (green, I think I descended to the last left bend of the road to Ravne). Orientation is not trivial, the step must be stable all the time. Your path (pink) has three key problems. The ridge from Kozica to Stari grad is cut by rock monoliths in some places (you bypass or climb them), it is also much steeper than the ascent ridge. The passage past the farms (Čevel, Grahek) is directly through the yards, the paths are of course not official and you risk some barking (I preferred to turn back, although the people are friendly). The descent through the gully before the farms (Čevel or Grahek) and then to Stari grad is one of the most overgrown and awkward passages for traversing that exists in pathless terrain but of course most things can be passed if you are stubborn enough to push through overgrown brushwood, thorns,... regards

andi2, thanks. If the weather permits, on Sunday I'll try to put together this route, I'll see what succeeds from it, the ascent very likely, for the descent I still have some variants and I'll see how it goes. Thanks

Kozica is a textbook example of why this forum is such a great thing. A low hillock, barely 974 m at the top, I would probably have overlooked it entirely if it weren't for the posts of my predecessors. So this Sunday I didn't feel like slogging through the snow, so I chose something lower, closer, for a bit of recreation. And the decision fell to go see Kozica, starting at the suggested spot under the viaduct. For those who don't like jumping over the stream at the start, they can also make a short detour over the nearby bridge, the steepness starts right away under the motorway viaduct and is quite solid for a Sunday stroll - about 550 m of elevation gain to the top, not bad for such a little one. If someone insists on going strictly along the top of the ridge, they will have two or three small rock jumps in between (easy), otherwise it is possible everywhere to go around on a surprisingly trodden path. For average Sunday hikers, it might not be too appealing - somewhat slippery and steep in places, no views, and the noise from the motorway can still be heard even after an hour of walking. The trip is probably not too attractive for kids either - too little climbing on rocks and too much pushing uphill. Fans of ridges and unmarked paths will enjoy it more, probably surprised at what can be found on a hillock literally right next to the motorway. The summit is broader, and currently there are whole fields of large snowdrops (crocuses) on it. Just below the summit on the north side there is a forest road that comfortably leads downhill, either to the main road and then to the starting point or, as desired, turns west somewhere in between, for all those who want to go further but don't like steep slippery descents. The whole loop starting point - along the ridge to the top - back via roads around the bend is about 3h of normal walking, the youth will of course be faster.

Nice Loerst Kozica is really extensive, especially if you comb through the slopes too. And it's even nicer when everyone finds their own personal variant. I noticed something similar on my last visit - more trodden ridge. Lp

Morning Kozica from the transmitter. Just under three hours circular variant with descent by road (suited me fine). Technically not demanding, but not easy, as it climbs quite steeply. Additionally, the fairly long summit section before turning from end of ridge surprised me. And yes Zlatko, no ticks yet. Verified 100%, given they adore me .

Descent can be nicely spiced up and varied. As for ticks and 100% verified info You're misleading the public and me. Still reminds me today with itchy mark on chest!! Looks like I brought it home from Kopitnik despite using spray. lp

Nice day shaping up, so usual post-work fatigue had to step back. Kozica invited me already Friday on way back from work. Ran into two surprises. From Zahomše direction, half hour searching logging trail to ridge start due to snow, which I'd find easily in summer. On ridge hit up to half meter snow not bonded to base like muddy ice. Funny and very tiring to slip knee-deep every other step. Below cigar in steepest, preferred digging rocks over path and carefully climbed ridge, traverse and steep up higher. On long summit ridge troubles deepened. On descent crossing ridge left, despite tired legs fooling around how nice jumping and sliding through fresh powder. At Nejc's hut bypassed Črni vrh for best Savinja valley view, through Zahomce by road slowly thawed legs back to life. Demanding conditions, all along 5-10C below zero, hard to give more in under six hours. Safe on trails!
