There was about 10 cm of snow in the vast forests above 800 m, the fresh snow morning was just right to get some fresh air and stretch my legs. It turned out I wasn't alone and even in the quiet winter forest there's always some ear following and some pair of eyes watching.

All young people at the cemetery. If there were no wars maybe some would still live now, now they've been dead over 70 years. And their relatives' lives would be nice too.

Yesterday I did a loop (large part also by car) through Kočevje forests. Snow was 5 to 15 cm, just enough that morning tracks of the night were still visible. Bears got tired of their dens already and are wandering around.

On Sunday we went with guide Rafael to his home areas, to Mirna gora, from the direction of Črnomelj, from the village Talčji vrh. On Saturday during the scouting trip he also met cyclists, overnight about 40 cm of snow fell on top. Real snow idyll. In Rodine village lady Albina kindly welcomed us, we had already agreed we must stop by on the return too. The guide had a muddy path on Saturday, we had a nice snow-covered one on Sunday. It was trodden, we trampled a little more. To Planina it's fairly flat, then the forest educational trail starts, plus some ascent to the hut. There were almost 20 of us, quite a few first-timers. In the hut the caretaker welcomed us nicely with good stew and excellent homemade bread, plus sausage. On the way back some put on crampons for safer steps. No ice though, just dry snow. According to signs the paths from Semič and our starting point are about the same length, ca 2.5 hours, maybe 3 hours. Total 16 km. Lady Albina welcomed us again, this time with Belokranjska pogaca, excellent, thanks. We'll come again, maybe in spring.
From previous posts I see 77blaz is a regular guest and has interesting encounters in these areas, yeah Kočevje forests....

lilyd,
nice smile In my youth I was often on Mirna gora, grandma lived in Črmošnjica valley. Nice, solid tour, can be done from Uršne Sela over Mirna gora to Semič. To Uršne Sela by train, then descent on forest roads and shortcuts (sadly no marked paths there, at least not in my younger days, so map and accompaniment of someone who knows the area) to Črmošnjice or Srednja vas. If to Črmošnjice, then from there recommend ascent to Gača ski area and on to Mirna gora, if to Srednja vas, then at the church there hopefully still a marked path and on it likewise to Mirna gora. Descent from Mirna gora to Semič, to the railway station. In spring, when paths are dry and days long, trees green and plenty of wild garlic in forests, with some luck mushrooms too, it's an excellent all-day tour. Last spring I was at Gače, everything nicely marked and signposted there, both from valley up and towards Mirna gora and Baza 20, how the path from Srednja vas is I unfortunately don't know. In my youth from Uršne Sela to Črmošnjice/Srednja vas no marked paths, we went on shortcuts and forest roads shown by grandparents, later locals, could be the same today. Mirna gora and Rog are great spots, also remains of old Kočevje villages along forest roads on Rog worth seeing smile
