A really nice summit, away from the crowds, is located in the foothills of Kanin. Skutnik 1721m offers us a unique view of the Soča valley.

But how do you get up there?

Over the Učja border crossing, we drive into the Resia valley and further along the road to the Kot pasture (Italian Coot). The idyllic pasture is at 1200m and is our starting point. After an hour and a half of walking along the shady side of the mountain, we reach the summit of Skutnik. The view as already mentioned to the Soča valley, the Polovnik ridge, Stol, Muzec and of course the Resia valley, Žrd and Kanin mountain range. The trip is also suitable for ski touring.

Thanks for the answer. But I think the road over Sella Carnizza is closed now, because they don't plow it. Access to Resia is only from Resiuta, but it's far around. Well maybe I'd go from Žaga, but it's quite a drag, and I think the path isn't marked either. I'll wait for summer, then go from planina Kot to the bivouac under Mulec, then leisurely to the top of Skutnik, then hop to Vrh Planje and back to the planina by another path, I think that will be a very nice circular tour.

I have a feeling that you, Triglavski, asked the question about the approach to Skutnik more for our sake than your own. Anyway, the result is excellent. Thanks to both for revealing those corners that connoisseurs claim hide real pearls - you just need to open the shell!

This Skutnik tempts me too. Last year we were rafting on the Soča River, stayed overnight in Bovec. The next day we were pondering between Stol and Skutnik. We decided on the ascent to Stol. It was also very nice there. Maybe if your path takes you to that neck of the woods it's good to visit both, of course over two days.

Do you mean Kobariški Stol or is there some other Stol around Bovec?

Of course, I meant Kobariški Stol.

The Kotarji (inhabitants of the Breginjski kot) would pierce you with their eyes if you mentioned Kobariški Stol to them, the correct name is Breginjski.

Nice greetings from Mb, I'm new to the forum and wonder what the footprints next to the descriptions of huts or peaks mean. Thanks in advance and nice greetings.

I know this doesn't fit in this section, but let it be. On May 1st I climbed a 324m high tower. It's also a wonderful experience. Lp Franc

Madonna, Franc, how did you get such a tower? I once climbed the TV one on Krim about 65 meters, great view you see all of Slovenia.

I like the peaks above Krvavec, especially Kompotela. Nice grassy, easily accessible summit with nice view on Kamnik Alps. Trip suitable also for kids.

Did you go to the tower on foot or is there another way? How long did it take you hiking up?

Most people go to the tower by elevator. To the second platform at 115 m height, four elevators go. To the top at 324 m, two elevators go. There are stairs too. Almost nobody uses them. Lp Franc

For me personally many hills are beautiful. In our area (Posavje) definitely worth visiting Bohor waterfalls, whole Bohor area and of course local hills (Brežice) panoramic Špiček above Pišece, Goli Cirnik and popular Sv. Vid. Around Ljubljana I'd highlight Pekel waterfalls, Polhograjska Grmada, Janče, Sv. Miklavž and Zasavska holy mountain. Higher ones most pleasant for me e.g. in K.S. Alps Dleskovška plateau, panoramic Ojstrica. Most beautiful Turska gora from Kamniško sedlo or over Žmavčarje (not over the gully though)... Storžič is worth a visit in every season, though winter not for everyone. Almost forgot V. Rogatec and Lepenatka. In Julijci Škrlatica, Triglav lakes, Bovški Gamsovec, Špik and others something special to me. Karavanke whole are wonderful anyway.
