Can anyone tell where the black murka can be seen and when it blooms? Thanks for the answer.

Yes, I met the black murka only once in twenty-seven years of mountaineering and that on the southern slope of Tosca; it was sometime in July. You will recognize it by the wonderful smell of cocoa! LP.

There are plenty of black murks on Trentarski Ozebnik. You go up over Trebiščina, or from Zadnjica above the hunters' hut the path branches off, but it's hardly visible. It smells like cocoa at the end of July.

Is "Trentarski Ozebnik" meant to be ZADNJIŠKI OZEBNIK (2084 m.a.s.l.)?

Some known habitats along marked paths: Malo and Velo polje (also in the relatively close vicinity of Vodnikov dom), Lazoviški preval (you can find some red specimens too), on Črnelske špice, ... Otherwise its scent is a frequent companion of off-trail hikers; true, also common on the slopes of Zadnjiški Ozebnik. Yes, if you see somewhere on a high alpine meadow between July and September an old man, oblivious to the surroundings, with his butt sticking high in the air, nostrils pressed into the grass, know that it's me, drawn to the ground by the rich scent of vanilla. I deliberately wrote vanilla, because that's what my nose says and because Tone Wraber wrote it that way in his descriptions of alpine plants. Finally, to avoid dispute: whether our murkas smell of chocolate or vanilla, whether black or red, it's nice to visit them year after year and bow deeply before them and respectfully bend the knees. Thanks for the answers. But can they be found also in Karavanke and Kamnik-Savinja Alps?

Also on the slope of Raduha you find murkas and for me they are the dearest there. Because I wanted to take good photos I put my glasses in the grass and photographed from all possible sides. After finishing shooting I headed to the hut, but the glasses stayed among the murkas... that's why murkas on Raduha meadows are so expensive. But I saw black murkas also on the slope of Begunjščica, though many, many years ago. And I fully understand Rakar... one can't pass by without sniffing the murka flower. Good luck everyone!

Murkas can be found on the path from Planina Preval to Roblek (via Roža), just a bit off the trail. From early July on.

Is it true that the beautiful slipper blooms around Zelenica or on the path to it? Is there a lot of it? I'm going to photograph it. Maybe if someone knows other known sites? I already saw it in Matkov kot by the road and on the path to Matkov ška in the forest. Thanks for the answer.

I don't know why in the book Alpine flowers the black murka is shown with black flowers, but red ones as above in the photo, probably it's some other murka species. Or not? 7 days ago I was on Vrtača and saw and photographed only the red variant. But there are many lilies on Vrtača, leave them be. Now they are blooming also on Okrešelj, where some even pick them. I haven't seen murka with black inflorescence yet, and my photo album already has around 100 different plants. LP! Jelči

I took this photograph recently at Obir. The murka has just sprouted because the snow has just melted and it didn't have the initial scent yet. Lp

Good photo otherwise, do you mean differently about the Carniolan lilies on Vrtača?

On Thursday I went towards Vrtača and to my great joy saw many beautiful black murkas. Of course there is lots of other flowers too, hope mountaineers really just observe this beauty and don't pick even unprotected flowers.
