Poor PZS!
For the last approx. 10 years as 10% owners at almost all huts, they haven't given a single cent for renovation. Prašnikar is rambling about Ribniška hut! Its scenario is written with the same letters as it was for Rožca on Krvavec. The tenant financed the entire renovation and then asked PD Kranj about their health. Since their health was very weak, Rožca replaced the owner. The same will apply to Ribniška hut. I warmly recommend Mr. Prašnikar to check out the "hotel" of Ribniška hut and the page "Grmovškov dom"
If he doesn't know what he's talking about, it's wiser to stay silent.

I wouldn't say it's poor; they live on good salaries since for the work they do, any salary is excellent. Here and there they nod to some restriction for hikers, but they don't come up with anything smart.

Ribniška and Grmovškov are really there, go home and see.

This year we were at both. Grmovškov dom has been converted into a hotel for some time. "Ribniška koča" as well.
The real mountain huts in this area are Koča pod Kremžarjevim vrhom and Koča Planinc.

Mountaineering elitism also includes usurious parking fees. But PZS is not very loud in opposing them...

Ribniška and Grmovškov are really standing, go home and see. zmeden

Yes, I'd say, ... but what's mountaineering left here, nothing far and wide.

I agree with julius though, but what when they are open only on weekends. No keepers.

We were also at Pesnik this year. Unfortunately, at the time when it should be open, they weren't happy with our visit because they had a private party.
This hut, in my view, is more of a private bistro than a mountain station.
There's no comparison between Pesnik hut and Planinc hut. Planinc is light years ahead of Pesnik.

Ribniška hut "is to be given for long-term lease"????
Part of the hut "annex is in the OWNERSHIP of the tenant, who has in the land register "pre-emptive right of purchase for 50 years.
NLB has a mortgage for 195,000.00€.
So Mr. Prašnikar from PZS is misleading or lying.
Let everyone judge for themselves.

Mountain huts are becoming elite locations. This is not even remotely comparable to the ideological foundation of mountaineering and huts as shelters to help mountaineers. I hardly go to the Julian Alps anymore, primarily due to usurious parking fees, which the umbrella PZS doesn't oppose at all!, and secondly the attitude of hut keepers to real mountaineers, those sturdy Slovenians who go for a couple days with backpack and food to the mountains. You're not welcome to eat your own near or in the hut, because they glare at you right away. The elite has appropriated the mountains at all levels and we must destroy that. Going to Triglav is my right, going to mountains for myself, with family, for views and mountaineering atmosphere - this mustn't be charged. This is Soros's green plan that the government follows. The old regime in Vrata worked and I had no complaints. I understand a sensible compensation for parking use, 5-10€/day for road maintenance, fine. Not fleecing. Same in Zadnjica. That's why I avoid the Julians. They'd charge for every corner because they don't know how to do tourism. Maybe a hop to Austria wouldn't hurt.

If you'd read the article, you'd see that - except the article author in the title - no one actually discourages the visit.

Slovenian mountain huts have been in wild privatization phase for some time. Suddenly nothing pays off (hello, huts full and with steeply salted prices), alpine clubs powerless (why have them then?), and suddenly unprofitable (in worse times it didn't happen!!, true no buyers for huts back then).
In summer I vacation in Lombardy (Italian Ortler side). Huts owned by CAI Milano, keepers often whole extended families. Keepers organize guiding, know to advise, ... Prices on Slovenian level. How does it work in Lombardy? As far as I know Italy capitalist state with not excessive social feelingzmeden

Mimi, you don't know the managements of these clubs with problems. Most have issues with greed and incompetence of leaders; at one such club the tenant said once obligation fulfilled he doesn't want to hear of them anymore.
In Italy quite a few huts privately owned and there mountaineers can't claim discount, but prices acceptable relative to offer. In CAI owned huts I always felt better there than many places at home.
Symptoms of wild privatization show also among hunters, their numerous huts interestingrolling

mirank, I agree with greed of club presidents, about incompetence one could discuss. Example PD Jesenice and Tičarjev dom. Would be nice if only incompetence.

Many such examples, just not publicly exposed.
