Mrzla gora from Matkov kot

I agree, we won't figure out exactly where we were. In the first steep gully, shortly after the škaf there was indeed a pulled-out peg, but that spot didn't pose problems for us.
Actually the summit would anyway be just an addition, since the original goal was only the škaf. But since we just felt like looking a bit further, we peeked a bit higher, and it didn't bother us at all that we had to turn back, because we had already gone to Mrzla gora from Matkov kot once years ago.

No, that's what I wanted to know. I expected that no one would fix that peg back. So no one maintains this path anymore. I remember it when my son got hung up on the rope while we were descending! You'll manage this path next time - wait until the snow melts a bit more and it won't be so hard to find the ascent direction!

Has anyone been to Mrzla gora recently? I'm interested in the snow and markings. On Thursday I'd like to dash to the Savinja Alps.

Today my friend and I visited the beauty KSA from Matkov kot. The path is quite damp all the way to Škaf, as apparently Matkova dolina no longer sees the sun at this time. From Škaf onwards it was better. Some caution needed in the wall above the scree field, then to Latvica it's a walk. Above Latvica it gets serious. We climb to the mountain along its very exposed eastern ridge, where there are even fewer protections than on the western. The rock is crumbly, so this path downhill is much more unpleasant than uphill.
At the summit quite a few people (9), which is a lot for Mrzla gora.
We descended along the western ridge towards Okrešelj. A lot has already been written about this path, so I won't repeat.

I'd ask if the markings on the eastern path are also renewed, because last time I went up from Okrešelj direction and at the summit it's marked in the descent direction, but is it complete?

Markings are renewed somewhere from the height of Škaf onwards (PD Matica Celje). Up to Škaf, old markings. Part of the path through the forest was carried away by an avalanche; on this part, you continue straight across the avalanche debris.

Has anyone been in these corners last week? My feet are already itching for the circular Krničko, but I know that snow stays long in Latvica.

If anyone is going these days, this info will come in handy.
On Saturday we three did the ascent from Matkov kot and descent to Logarska dolina. I have to say I walked here for the first time, from Logarska I was many times, always descended to Logarska. To Škaf and right after Škaf you need to cross three very unpleasant snow fields, so definitely recommend ice axe and crampons. Otherwise it's quite unpleasant. Above the snow field at Škaf we don't meet snow anymore, but as written above, with very airy and crumbly wall. Caution is prerequisite. No views on Saturday, descent to Logarska without issues. I don't remember so much snow in the ridges so late in June.
I'd also mention very poor signs for Škaf once we turn from main road towards Pavličev sedlo. Only sign at junction towards kot, then no signs anymore to the ramp. Since to the ramp not just one obvious path or road leads, we were very confused early morning where to go. Markings are more exception than rule, and those very faded. Above Škaf marking is good, except need to watch when crossing snow fields where the path continues. In general, adrenaline.
Nice mountaineering greeting,
Tomaž

Nice traverse, right Tomo. For the snow you probably meant July, nasmeh well August will be soon too and snow will probably still be there.
Good luck!

@otiv
Yes, I meant July. It seems the whole thing surprised me very unpleasantly, that I even swapped monthsnasmeh, especially since I didn't find anywhere current info on the path condition, only that at the beginning of July someone wrote that it was already practically impossible to reach Škaf without full winter gear.

I still think this path is the most beautiful in spring snow. All jumps are nicely covered, even the steep, rocky passages,... The snow isn't as hard as it probably is now...

Tomo, the path to the Logarska side is probably completely dry!?

Yesterday I fulfilled Ani's wish - to visit Mrzla gora from Matkov kot. With the intention of grilling a sausage, we left one car in Logarska dolina, with the other we drove to the barrier in Kot. Let me praise the local regime, as with a PZS card you save 7€ on entry to the valley. The lower part of the trail towards the škaf is very damaged, lots of fallen trees on it too, so it's better to go up along the valley bottom. The škaf is in its last gasps, a bit below it snow is still thick and might cause trouble to many. Above it, dwarf pine branches are nicely trimmed, cables towards Latvica have at least three damaged. Otherwise the short climb above Latvica to the top is pure pleasure. We descended via Okrešelj to Logarska dolina, where the car was waiting in the shade.

There's still some snow on the path, which poses no problems for those used to hiking in snow, caution isn't superfluous, the ridge is completely dry.. Regards

We were up there yesterday 26.7. from Matkov kot - path is dry all the way, Matkov škaf almost gone, otherwise well-maintained cables and pegs. Down to Okrešelj also fine. Few people from Matkov kot, a few more from Okrešelj, but still less than 20 total.

M

On Saturday we did a half-marathon loop on Mrzla gora: up through Matkov kot, down over Okrešelj (and on foot through Logarska back to the car). Both paths are normally passable, under Matkov škaf there's an awkward but doable crossing into the gully. A more experiential report you can read on the blog.
