Italian name for Krn[edit | edit code]
Italians while conquering Slovenian peaks gave them their names. Batognica thus got name Monte Rosso either due to characteristic red chalk rocks or due to all spilled blood, Skutnik due to lieutenant Valeria Vallera who fell in attack on Krn summit got name Punta Vallero. Krn they called Monte Nero namely due to wrong translation. "Krn" they wrote as chrn based on pronunciation and concluded it actually means "black". Black color is nero in Italian.

Yes, interesting they were diligent, about taste better not... But fact is Italians were very good builders. Also road to Mangart saddle probably still wouldn't be there today, which some would like, others not...

Already during war they didn't spare cement, their shelters and accompanying objects for positions mostly concreted. Of this monument only staircase for access to platform before shelter survived. Most similar objects with fascist architecture and inscriptions "Italy forever" etc after war really called for pickaxe...
