No, not Prevala. This is the hut a bit above Rosstratte below the summit of Dobrač.

No miri, it's not Krnčica. The fortification dates from the time when the border was at Vršič. So it's an Italian product after the First World War.

So Rapallo border. Similar "holes" (and further tunnels) I saw on Porezen. But is this IT

| B28. 12. 2015 21:38:57 |
No, that's very far from Porezen. It's in the upper Soča valley. The outer part (two domes) is very visible from afar, but access is very complicated and hidden.

I haven't been to these bunkers yet, but I think those are the two that can be seen on the slope above Soča about a kilometer before Kal-Koritnica (looking downstream).

Igor, thanks. I too have already been pondering, while driving through the Soča valley, where the access to these two bunkers might be.

Yes lino, those are the two bunkers. The easiest way to them is from the church in the village Kal - Koritnica. You go up the steep cart track uphill to the end, then at the small "turning place" right and directly through the bushes. After about 30 meters you reach a mule track, and above it you spot a stone arrow. Then follow the poorly trodden path "over the pass" and left across the slope. After about 300m you reach the bunker entrance. Of course you can also reach it from Čelo, just orientation is not so easy. To Kal - Koritnica you can return via a fairly good mule track, which is hard to find on ascent as it's destroyed at the bottom in the village. The bunker is fairly well preserved, spacious and dry. Of course the brick-built partition walls of the interior spaces are destroyed. Worth seeing!

B2, thanks for the detailed description of access to these two prominent bunkers above the Soča valley. Looking at them you wonder what task the military strategists of the First World War assigned to them and whether they justified the soldiers' suffering in building these monstrosities and the supply mule track.

lino, the bunkers were not built in the First World War, but the Italians built them after the First World War. Similar bunkers are built on the other side of the Soča river bed at Krševec. Both bunker systems were intended to block the Soča valley and controlled access along the valley in case of attack and advance of the then Yugoslavia's military forces down the valley (it was the time of the Rapallo border). The bunkers were equipped with cannons and permanently manned with a large crew. Underground there is all the infrastructure needed for survival, there were furnished and very well insulated living spaces and water supply. All brick partition walls and also brick-lined walls are damaged and partially or completely destroyed. All the used bricks are in ruins that did not arise by themselves. This is "work" of the former JNA from the barracks in Bovec! For material delivery, a cableway was made from the road by the Soča river and also a mule track from the village Kal - Koritnica. For storage needs, animal stables and other military needs, there were barracks in the valley below the fortress, whose foundations are still preserved. At the lower fortification by the Soča river at Kršovec, military buildings still stand, which are now "converted" into residential buildings - holiday homes...

B2, thanks for the extensive explanation. Once again I missed the mark. But I learned a bunch of explanations about the events in Posočje after the First World War. Best regards.
