Ojstrnik 2052m

Print
viharnik1. 06. 2010 18:06:10
Today I went to Trbiž to find Fitwell Spirit hiking boots but they weren't there. So in low approach shoes I hiked well around Ojstrnik.
I drove up the Ukev valley to the pasture near the old Rif Nordio hut, where I meet the local Juret speaking Ljubljana dialect. He tells me he's been here forever, born in Jesenice. He works at the inn at Juret's on Višarje. He said he was also a friend of the borderland alpinist who recently killed himself in Prisank and also of guide Klemen Gričar.
Then I head along the new road where workers are building side water channels, all the way to the new hut. It will be fully built by August. Not far ahead is Sedlo Lom, where I turn right onto path 403-507 to Ojstrnik. On Pl. Bistrica everything is nicely flowering and fragrant too. I head to the summit, where it's windy only in the middle of the slope, at the top complete calm, where I sit down and feast my eyes, as there's plenty to see from this mountain. Meanwhile a swoosh overhead and look, two gliders appear circling around. Since it's clouding over, I hurry to Marija Snežna and Zahomec, where two marmots greet me along the way. I descend past the new chapel and along the comfortable pine-needle path 507 to the start. Nice panoramic circular tour and just the right length to hike.nasmeh

Ha, ha, yes Kriška today's tour was a feast for the eyes. So many flowers and greenery, pastures and chapels, views from the summits and all around, walking on nice terrain and just right; in 1h40min to Ojstrnik, loop down just under two hours!.
I even forgot about this little beauty!1

Was up there yesterday and truly a fairy-tale idyll. Repeated the same loop as Viharnik, though in considerably longer time, since the day was crystal clear and full of motifs for the eyes. Besides, the temperatures added their own. Saw 2 snakes, a glider, no marmot and countless cows.

Super viewpoint!

Good luck!

Nice Grega!, but yesterday the neighbor visited Volovjek, where they were just driving livestock to the pastures, so it was supposedly quite crowded. I'll head to the mountains sometime during the week, because it's quieter and soon it'll be necessary.

I take the road towards Sattel Lom and then through the forest to Bistrica Alm. There's not much snow through the forest, and some fallen trees on the path, but it went fine. The southern slopes of Ojstrnik above Bistrica Alm are quite snow-poor, and what's there is southern snow. Soon above the alm I meet Peter from Bovec, halfway to the summit also Marjeta. We agreed to meet below at the new Prešeren hut under Sattel Lom. From the panoramic summit I skied first along the summit ridge westwards, then chose the nicest flank north, which apparently three guys from Tržič also skied. At first fresh powder, lower southern snow, which I handled easily after carefully reading Ksenija's tips yesterday. I skied to the road, then to Dolinca Alm and down the road towards Ukvam. At the Prešeren hut we met again with Marjeta and continued together to the start at the former Defar hut.

On Wednesday before a short vacation in Bovec, my friend and I casually climb to Ojstrnik. From Ukve along the road as far as it goes, then trail underfoot. First for warm-up along the road, then before the new hut before Sattel Lom turn right into the forest, but if you're chatting, first time there, you miss it, make a circular walkvelik nasmeh around Sattel Lom and only then across Bistrica Alm to the summit of Ojstrnik. We returned via the north side, with board it was super, on foot also...up to the waist, hehe. Then (againmežikanje) past Sattel Lom and back to the start. The day was sunny and windy, conditions...not current anymore todaynasmeh

That's what the path looks like today. On the south side, except at the top, almost no snow left. On the north slopes it sinks badly.

Everything very nice, but picture 33 (completely sober): Who needs asphalt at 1600m?
Remark 1; 3rd picture is Starhand above Dolinca alm / view from Lom saddle.
Remark 2 rozka; 13th picture is Dolinca alm, Lom saddle is to the left of the photo.
Remark 3 drago40; 2nd picture is not Lom alm but Dolinca alm = common property of Blace village.

I couldn't refuse such an invitation. Around noon I arrive at the former Nordio Defar hut, which of course is no more, as a storm took it in 2003. Interestingly, Italians still use Nordio for the starting point and even hope it will be rebuilt someday. Then I go along path 507 by the Pleccia stream to the namesake saddle and further to the Marija Snežna chapel, and a bit further to Bistrica Alm, which was basking in the sun, and quite a few visitors too. Somehow unnoticed I went on, as I wanted to the summit of Ojstrnik, went east to the saddle and along the east ridge to the top. View splendid. Upper Sava valley, Beljak and Klagenfurt basin in fog, likewise whole Zilja and behind Drava valley under fog cover. Julian Alps bathing in warm sun. I descended back to the alm, where a very friendly welcome and refreshments followed, chat and socializing with hikers from Trbiž, Zilja valley, Beljak, some even from Trieste and Friulian plain. Thanks Hubert and Alessio for the invitation. I descended in company of chatty Italian girls along the usual path below Lom saddle to the start.

Today another nice winter beautiful tour - summit Oisternig. We drive into Ugovizza valley, at the Camoscio inn straight ahead another approx. 1km. There on foot we head to path no. 507 towards Plecca saddle (1616m), from there along path 507-403 to Marija Snežna chapel (1750m) and further towards Bistrica alm (1720m). Ahead of us only the summit Oisternig (2050m). To the summit two paths, Italian and Austrian side. We choose the right Austrian side. The path from both sides is not demanding. At summit wonderful views in beautiful and very warm weather. Snow at summit as well as on whole path very little, much blown to grass. From top we descend Italian side to the alm and continue path 507-403 towards Dolinica alm (1460m). From there over Lom saddle past new F.lli Nordio-Deffar hut along nice wide road back to start. As I said, beautiful circular tour with wonderful views and in between two picturesque alms Bistrica and Dolinica.

Ojstrnik and the surrounding area are trilingual places and also have beautiful Slovenian names. Not just beautiful, wonderful ones. More on the link:

No hard feelings and best regards from Laibach, pardon Lubiana, actually Ljubljana.

@dm72

I immediately cover myself with ashes, because it very often slips from my tongue either a German or Italian name of some place or peak. Because for years, decades, either German or Italian name was used, depending on which side you were wandering. Then, when our country became independent and joined Euro-Atlantic alliances, the border Slovenians across the border started "turning on" our language again and I increasingly heard about places and peaks completely unknown to me... which I later realized not only I knew but I had even been there and on them. And then I found this, the above-mentioned link to Gore-Ljudje and was thrilled.

P.S.
Friuli is also close to my heart and there I help myself with a four-language dictionary of Friulian names (Italian, German, Slovenian, Friulian):
