Osankarica, Three Kings and Šumik

Yesterday we went from Osankarica over Black Lake to the Holy Three Kings. We continued the path towards Šumik, where we first viewed Veliki and Mali Šumik, then climbed up to the hut on Šumik. We returned to the starting point past the forestry hut Obrolovo and the Pohorski Battalion camp on Osankarica. The entire path except the descent to the waterfalls is easy. The path to Veliki and Mali Šumik runs along a wet steep slope, where caution is needed so we don't slip. LP Esther and Tadej

We two also did a similar tour about a month ago! Three Kings across Black Lake to Osankarica via the path over Three Stakes back to Osankarica by road to Šumik and back to Three Kings. Super trip! Only the path from Šumik back to Three Kings is very bad! Foresters messed it up really badly! To all who will hike in Pohorje I warmly recommend seeing the ŠUMIK waterfall (small and big) in all seasons but good footwear mandatory!!!

Since the data are old, I will add mine, which are from 28.12.2009. New snow up to 20 cm, path from Three Kings to Osankarica normally walkable even without gaiters.

I'm interested if anyone on the forum has recently been on the Ruše-small and big Šumik path, if yes, tell what the path is like and if the waterfalls are frozen.

Today we visited Veliki Šumik waterfall, started from Ruše, first half path trodden, second harder half partly trodden, snow soft. Šumik frozen almost fully, but last snow on it so ice not fully visible, attach pics.

Yesterday from Ruše to Veliki Šumik. Path partly trodden, snow with hard crust that bears well. Up to 10cm powder on top. Some places crampons mandatory, especially to continue from waterfall to Bajgot (also for crossing small frozen streams).

Nice weekend and good decision, we made a really good trip.
From FOREST HUT AT ŠUMIK we went to see first both waterfalls (BIG AND SMALL ŠUMIK) and then continued to BLACK LAKE, OSANKARICA and via CAMP back to FOREST HUT ŠUMIK. There we refreshed well and returned back to Maribor.nasmehnasmeh
As for the caretaker at this hut, only praises. Good food and genuine homely feeling. Really worth seeing and visitingvelik nasmeh....yes and after 5-hour hike we are quite tired today nasmeh

Hard to believe it's coincidence. Every year one or even more huts or lodges burn down. Do we really have some psychopath or moron who gets his kicks this wayjezenjezen

Maybe it's the cause that the hut tenant revealed, that he had chimney problems for a long time already. Otherwise the hut I think no longer had mountain hut status and has been in private tenant's hands since last year. Anyway, pity for the hut that unfortunately met the fate of too many huts.

Today I explored these nice spots which are actually very close to my new home.nasmeh
From Osankarica I went to see Crno jezero, continued to Three Kings, spotted the path to Šumik on the way, studied the map and on the way back detoured to Koča Šumik and back to Osankarica. On the way I also checked the last battlefield of Pohorje Battalion. Wonderful outing! Beautiful nature.

The atmosphere is only slightly spoiled by the sad scorched ruins of Osankarica. The keeper has a stand so even if someone ends up here they won't go hungry!

Mountaineering Society Ruše announces that the path from Ruše, along Lobnica stream to Šumik waterfall, is damaged due to storm. Water washed away part of the path and destroyed three bridges on the path, therefore it is CLOSED until further notice.

Hello, with kids we'd like to go on a trip around Pohorje - interested in Osankarica area, Three Kings, maybe also Koča Šumik. Which path do you recommend - to make 1 loop, where we can get refreshments along the way - as I see the Osankarica hut has unfortunately burned down.
