Osovnik, Gontarska pl., Govejek (circular tour)

viharnik27. 11. 2010 16:31:28
After the snowfall, starting points for higher tours are paralyzed, so I decided for a nearby tour to Polhograjci.
I ascend to Osovnik from Ločnica, where it's already well trodden. Snow in these hills is incomparably more than in the valley, around 30 cm and more on Gontarska pl. On Osovnik I meet an old acquaintance from two years ago, where we go together further to Gontarska pl. and circularly conclude the tour via Govejek and descent over Lužar and on the new path over the waterfall to the parking in Ločnica.
I must praise the excellent, completely new young maintenance staff from Kras on Govejek. Spoon food is excellent, as well as desserts. Before, caretakers changed, who had a written menu in the hut, but none prepared when you ordered. Those who came to the hut were boozing, so real hikers avoided from afar, as drunks even lay on benches in the hut and slept. Now since May all 100% different, old fame of good hut slowly returning. Hut is warmly heated and really pleasant atmosphere there. From here nice tours to Gontarska pl., Veliki Babnik, Osolnik circular or even longer tour to Tošč. Nice areas of snowy solitary Polhograjci just a gunshot from Ljubljana.nasmeh

Let there be a riddle to start today nasmeh: Almost under our noses we have them, but we know them so little... What are they? Yes, "Polhograjci", of course nasmeh. We've had them in plan for a long time to explore a bit… Well, today when morning obligations dragged almost to noon and there was no more time to go farther, the opportunity offered itself… And since we like circular paths, we got excited over Viharnik's record above (Viharnik, thanks for the tip nasmeh).
We park in Ločnica valley, the path starts at the sign "Osolnik – Circular path". Shady and damp valley we quickly "grind through" and soon we are out of the forest, where the sun greets us. At the sight of sunny grassy slopes we are amazed and speechless eek – we see a herd of chamois, some ten or fifteen of them… we simply couldn't believe our eyes, as we've never seen so many together, let alone at such a height... Most fled to the forest, some remained… some continued grazing calmly, others "posed". Thanks nasmeh. The stop here was looong… we couldn't get enough of looking at them. Then we finally continue to the top of Osolnik, where it blows quite strongly, so we don't linger long. We descend in the direction of the circular path past the cabin and continue upward again to the top of Gontarska planina, where tree branches are still clad in ice and create a bit of winter atmosphere. Then down the ridge to Govejek and back to the starting point.
Conditions: impressions more spring-like than winter zavijanje z očmi. The path is completely dry in places, sprinkled with snow elsewhere, in the shadiest areas covered with a few centimeters of frozen snow – where the slope is steeper, one must watch for slipping. On the path from Gontarska planina to Govejek we crossed three or four quite substantial avalanches eek (who would have thought, on such "hillocks"). I can't say they were very extensive, but if they had caught someone by chance, they certainly wouldn't have left them uninjured.
It was a nice afternoon, I hope we return to these parts soon… sometimes even such "hillocks" provide plenty of satisfaction…nasmeh
Finally we step into the sunlight, behold our goal and...1
... and chamois peacefully grazing...2
This one decided to flee...3

Gita, super tour you did! Unlike my path, you took one junction earlier (at Rus) into the woods. Above the path joins the access road, which comes from Sora hills. Yesterday I also made a circular tour, this time around Tošč. These Polhograjci always hide some new surprises and serve up landscape beauties in every season. In winter right after snowfall they even offer good skiing.nasmeh

Yes Viharnik, we were really enthusiastic about the beautiful Polhograjci and believe they are wonderful in all seasons. We also checked out some slopes and "mused" that one could descend well here also on skis nasmeh. We'll continue exploring... maybe we'll meet sometime nasmeh

@Zippo - aha, so they can be seen more often... we were poking around here for the first time and were really very surprised... our first thought was that maybe someone even raises them... but when there was no fence anywhere, we knew it wasn't so... really interesting...

It's been a long time since anyone revived this nice circular path, which we walked today in the opposite direction to Gita above. Only from the Dom on Govejek to the bench on Gontarska planina we ascended along the ridge, which is better for these conditions. Today ski tourers were also chasing around the slopes of Osovnik, apparently enough for fun. There were two chamois, but both with me. nasmeh. Nice, recommended circular tour.
Start by the stream, there are really many of them in Polhograjcih1

Today I took a short walk via Govejek to Gontarska pl. and Osovnik.
The path starts from the first parking lot in Ločnica, turn past the small waterfall and bridge to Micka, then via Govejek to Gontarska pl. and along the ridge to Osovnik.
On this variant it is now a bit trodden down, there is new dry snow over 5 cm, below the southern [slope] is properly frozen, not slippery, so walking is very soft. Under Gontarska pl. avalanches have piled heaps of snow on the pl. track, but they are no longer dangerous. Due to the previous thaw and last snowfall the pines are dressed in white branch sculptures and very nice to look at. The top part of Gontarska pl. was in fog, cold wind from the east, ca. -5°C. In short, a snowy fairytale, which I warmly recommend before tomorrow daytime the sun shakes the white decorations from the pines and spruces. No pics, Cheers!nasmeh

Again a nice tour in the Polhograjci hills, which offered real snowy idyll above 700m for Easter holidays.
Hiking loop starts at first Ločnica parking, go via Micke hut to Govejek, then onwards already in snowfall to Gontarska pl, then along long snowy ridge to saddle and Osovnik summit.
Beautiful nearby tour, probably much nicer than watching swamp, rain and puddles from home window.nasmeh

Path from Trnovec or Ločnica past power plant to Mihelčičev dom on Govejek is cleared and nicely passable. Hut is of course also open.

Happy trails!

Even better news for fans of circular paths in this area.

Members of PD Medvode two days ago completely cleared and even marked the mountain path connecting Brunarico Osovnik and Mihelčičev dom on Govejek. It's nicer than before the ice stormnasmeh

On Govejek they say there will be a bonfire on 30.04.2014 and they look forward to our participation.

After preparing lunch for my mom with a cold, I quickly jumped into the Polh. hills from Ločnica to Gontarska pl.
Below the forest is heavily greened, up at Micke at 650m it has already fully opened. To the top the sun nicely warmed with wonderful views. I returned along the ridge to the saddle under Osovnik and into the valley. Trip for the soulnasmeh.

Instead of crowded Smarna gora, a much nicer tour in the heart of the Polhograjci.
Up from cold Ločnica, higher up quite strong and green, already almost summer. By the church of St. Mohor on top they have already cleared the fallen beech from the storm wind. Snow hides only in shady spots. Peaceful rest on solitary Gontarska pl with light breeze just rustling in tree crowns. Return via open Govejek and Micke, who will count a round 90 in the new year. May the new year 2018 bring you new challenges in the qualities of a calm spiritnasmeh

To not open a new thread, I suggest to exploring souls right here that you can reach all these peaks and pastures also from the west. If starting from Kozjekov graben, countless paths and tracks hide in the forest leading to Gontarska planina. And unexpected stone ruins of once quite large estate hide in the forest somewhere north above Žirovnik farm. There is also a scenic NW extension of the ridge from Iga.

If anyone knows more about this part, I'll be grateful for info.

Well, some of those tracks mentioned by grega_p walked yesterdaynasmeh. The aim was exploring the area between Dolinska gora, Iga and peak Kajža 852m or curiosity, where the left quite wide track at the junction below Dolinska gora leads. It gradually narrowed, offered many variants left and right, so exploring continuesnasmeh. Return again a bit differently to the starting point.

And answer to grega, who is interested in info about the ruins in the forest above Žirovnik farm (pics below Dolinska gora). It's the long-abandoned Jamnik farm. During the war Germans burned the farm, after the war spruces were planted there, so the ruins over time were embraced by the forest. Grega, you mention scenic NW ridge extension from Iga. Do you mean Kajža?
