There's never time for two-thousanders, so we head towards Janč and spot a big sign saying Ostrovrharjeva pot while driving. Never heard of it and decision made to check out this historical curiosity. The trail is circular, we did the part leading past two castles. Couldn't see the first as it's private property, the second at the top has just remains of two walls. Area very overgrown. Then we descended a steep path down to the quarry where they carved millstones in the wall. The path should continue here but it's completely overgrown and impassable, so we backtracked part way and continued the circular trail.

Thanks for the visit and report. Path planned and maintained by the Ethnographic section of Podgrad cultural society. Unfortunately access to (rebuilt) first castle at owners not yet secured, as they want peace. Visits after path marking quite many. From Stari grad only few notches left, imagination needed here. Why not? [purpose more important than goal]. Further path has signposts or marks at visible spots, so no problems for experienced hikers. Don't know where you lost in quarry, but well-trodden circular path through it; must have been in a hurry, otherwise you wouldn't have missed it. Return path brings you to saddle under Stari grad, then continue to Besnica valley. Quarry path is side loop off main path, so some get confused. If you had guide folder (available at TK Pri Lazarju), no issues. I invite you to go to the second part of the path, it's also very nice, or come to guided hike 22.4. at 10am. Hi Griha. Many thanks for the invitation. If time permits we'll gladly join the hike, to see the rest of the path and revisit the very interesting millstone quarry to photograph it, as first time no camera. Many interesting hikes to your society and safe steps. Good luck!

Yesterday (Sunday, April 5) from Podgrad over Lazarjev vrh, Murjevko, Grmadnik to Tomaž and approximately back the same way. On this section the Ostrovrharjeva and Borovničeva trail run together for some time. Both seem very suitable to me for these nice spring days and of course the current conditions. On the trail itself I met perhaps some 15 visitors. Quite a few more were in Besnica valley, on the path on the left bank of the stream flowing along the road and probably even more at the Millstone Quarry and Stari grad. Parking coordinates: 46.06640, 14.63683. Walking was a bit over 8km, about two hours, less than 400m elevation gain.

Ostrovrharjev hike is usually end of April. Last year weather played up and hike was mid-May, this year virus prevented organized hike. But we did part of Ostrovrharjev hike yesterday, in smaller family setup. Start in Podgrad, all well marked, easy path to Stari grad. Addition was jump to Debnega vrh, to the tower. Then back past Stari grad, steeply down to millstone quarry. Interesting history happened on this part. Both castle lords living 800 years ago, as border during war. And of course way of cutting millstones. We returned along Besnica stream, which is one part of confluence of four waters, close here. Part of Ostrovrharjeva trail from Lazar, we did few days ago. Saw snowdrops, ferns and first lily-of-the-valley.
