Planina above Vrhnika

Planina (733 m) above Vrhnika is a wonderful excursion point in every season. In winter it is especially beautiful, easily accessible and suitable for all ages. Those who are fit usually climb from Vrhnika past Bukova or over Špica and then through Stari Maln and Lintvern. The easier path is via Zaplan, where they park their steel horses and walk to the hut. At the hut there is a new 22 m high observation tower from which there is a beautiful view of the Julian Alps, Karavanke, Snežnik, Nanos and to Kum.

What are the conditions on the circular path over Špica and Lintvern? Is it trodden? Heading out tomorrow.

No worries, the path is always trodden. In the hut, treat yourself to something delicious from the caring hands of the caretakers. I think you won't regret it. Tomorrow, nice weather is forecast. If luck favors you, you'll get a wonderful view far around. LP Andrej

Some snapshots from yesterday's trip Stara Vrhnika - Kuren - Planina nad Vrhniko - Stara Vrhnika. Paths trodden, but in places due to many visitors also a bit icy.

On Sunday after Saturday skiing in Austria, stretching on the circular path Stara Vrhnika (Hames), over Špica to Planina summit, descent past Lintvern to Stari Maln and by road back to the car. Path in upper part a bit icy, snow ca. 8cm on hard base. Caution on descent needed, better with small crampons. Quite a few hikers despite low clouds. Hut keepers as usual very friendly. l.p.

On Friday afternoon we went to Planina above Vrhnika via path past Bukova. Some snow still on the path in places, lots of visitors and shelter exceptionally open on weekday. Stairs on observation tower very icy, but nice view all around. Returned via path over Špica, which was icier and steeper too. Pleasant trip nasmeh

Since Sunday is a day we usually devote more to family duties, we headed in the afternoon from Zaplan to Shelter at Planina above Vrhnika. Weather muggy, view not very clear. Still walk pleasant also because chatted with nice shelter keeper. Surely return, want to visit Stari Maln but no time today.

I have to admit, I didn't feel comfortable at the very top.

It's not the Eiffel Tower, but for me definitely high enough.

My beloved little roses accompanied us the whole way.

Good thing I didn't walk in ancient times from Štirna to Bukve.

Today family trip to Planina above Vrhnika. Chose circular path to tire legs just a bit, as Planina not some high hill, offers though what one expects.
Climbed to Planina over Storžev grič and from shelter on Planina descended past Lintvern (occasional water spring) and Stari Maln back to start.

They stand in a row like houses in Trieste.

We'll go up there to experience something beautiful.

Wire ropes are also on the path, but they can be in the way for some.

Cyclamens are still blooming and smell pleasantly.

Tošč and Grmada are still visible, for more, Otiv, come another time.

The tower invites to a view that today was not exemplary.

Worth seeing, only the path descends more steeply to the spring.

Today there is no water, as this spring only occasionally shows its unrest.

The bench invites, we just sit, as we are not yet at the end of the path.

Because there is no proper water, the mill wheel does not turn.

Today quite a few trotted to Planina,
though the weather at noon got a bit worse.
Raindrops hung in the trees,
so no worry about shelter.
Wooden tower still stands on top,
but too many beeches lie on the ground. nasmeh

In the morning and at noon it was cloudy

The broken beech still serves some useful purpose

Let's hope the screws are well tightened

Today at the competition in Logatec, used the intermediate time for a jump to Planina, ... we went from Zaplan (St. Urh and St. Martin) - Shelter

Yesterday we retirees section PD Škofja Loka Thursday hikers visited Planina above Vrhnika. The start was in village Rovte. Then through village Mizni Dol to village Jamnik. At abandoned ski slope Ulovka we had a stop. Unfortunately we didn't walk through village Zaplan, where our late president of Slovenia Drnovšek lived. After about an hour and a half we arrived at Planina above Vrhnika and a big wooden tower and renovated alpine hut greeted us. We finished our hike in village Stara Vrhnika at Kuren, where there is chapel of St. Nicholas and open doors farm Kuren. You can go there also past hut LD Vrhnika. Under the hut there is even clear brook, which you have to jump over at this time. In the hut at Planina they even serve Cankar coffee.

It hasn't been operating for some years.

A little more and our main goal will be achieved.

It's been quite a while since I was at Planina above Vrhnika, at least since 2017, as today I was at the new hut for the first time. Funny, I just asked a colleague if Velkavrh still posts anything and now I see his post about the hike to Planina from 2019... Our family tour today within the region in a slightly rainy morning to Planina. We saw that Vrhnika people are extremely diligent, paths well-kept, clean, nicely marked. And what a nice hut they built, with huge volunteer work and contributions! The president mentioned that to me on one of the hikes. Jožeta Kregar's tower stands, today unfortunately no views. And next time from old maln, maybe with our youth, we could even overnight and continue to Zaplano... but when will that be? And we also met the spring adonis flower. We'll come again, sometime when it's sunny...
