Plešivec, 1801 m

When at the beginning of your hiking enthusiasm you start exploring the Košuta massif, whose ridge is over 10 km long, you first focus on its main peaks. You visit them individually, many exceeding 2000 m. Paths lead there from north and south, and their diversity is most evident, showing steep cliffs and gullies, numerous eroded towers and mighty walls on the north. A completely different picture towards south through steep grassy slopes ending on pasture meadows.

Over years you return. Many times via many different approaches. Traverse the ridge and return through soft grasses always with new impressions and pleasant experiences and promise to come back...

This time I chose less known and visited dome-shaped Plešivec. Paths from our side from Zgornja Dolga Njiva or Brsnina, latter from Medvode or Sp. Jezersko. Ridge link between KSA and Košuta I viewed before from more famous peaks: Virnikov Grintovec, Štegovnik, Košuta ridge and Storžič area. From Sp. Jezersko forest road to hunting hut. Parked there. Narrow road higher to dilapidated building, then unmarked but easy-to-follow path. Through woods and clearings, small gullies, many hunting posts, to meadow start where you spot the goal. Then across pastures by border stones with great views.

Path charmed me, summit views so captivating I didn't watch my step. Clenching teeth from severe pain in left joint descended to car. Ended at ER with plaster cast.mrk pogledGlad not fracture, recovery shorter. Nice tour despite mishap, surprised a chamois on way back; both scared.

Yesterday I decided for a jump to Plešivec... just on the way... during afternoon relaxing on Dolga Njiva. Path to start of ascent is dry, here and there snow patch on Zgornja Dolga Njiva. On ascent path is dry for a while, but in places climbing snow carpets... yesterday when hot, suitable for slip, but with little caution... And yes... snake season is open... Halfway I just heard hissing, then left of me spotted a viper. Well, in twenty seconds I stood at milestone by path and after a while continued with heavy heart.

Winter ascent to Plešivec from Jezersko in winter is a nice tour with 8km one way and over 1000m ascent.
Lots of snow in higher areas, so only with snowshoes or skis. Terrain of route mostly quite safe soon after snowfall. From Dolga Njiva no one accessed yet due to possible avalanches. From Medvodje usual safer winter approach variant also over Pl. Brsnina. Today cold NE wind on top, snow still completely dry, real snow fairy tale. Regards!

Today's beautiful tour below Plešivec, in excellent weather to shout about.
Towards Dolga Njiva it was untouched, except some hare tracks. Snow completely dry and unprocessed, higher up wind playfully shaped snow into various sastrugi forms, even waves. I ended the tour 50 m below summit, as now enough snow has fallen that pine branches spread horizontally, even memorial competitors didn't go to top. Not enough snow in forest, so I skied in Dolga Njiva bed, all across road to car in Medvodje. Tour very nice with solitary nature and primal mountain peacenasmeh.

I leave the car in Jelendol and head up the steep slope to Medvednica, then continue along the ridge over Črna Peč. Below Plešivec through bushes to the top of Plešivca, descend towards under Tolsta Košuta, then to Mala Košuta. Some little snow, otherwise no problem. Then descend to junction in Jelendol.

On Saturday I climbed to Plešivec from Jezerski Vrh. Snow from around 15 cm at start to good 40 cm on Pečovnik ridge.
Road to Roblekova Planina plowed and driven, then mostly walked on virgin snow, only on Pečovnik ridge ski tourer tracks.
Best, Tadej

Today I had the privilege of walking in Iztok Tomazin's track over Dolga Njiva. I myself thought of some dry west slopes and safe from avalanches.
Start in Medvode, already at car put on skis. At Zg. P already nearly 60 cm snow, at Dolge Njive hut settled 80 cm, higher fresh over 1 m, layered!. Snow sinks almost to ground when walking, skis not much. Afternoon wet up to ~1650 m. Surprisingly no avalanches from Košuta, probably first cm south stuck well to grass, high terrain with old snow still dry untouched till today. On Plešivec cold from SW, clouds forming. Descent top dry, but 10 cm below hard crusty frozen snow disturbing. Lower at hut heavy wet, forest bit better, road again sticky, from morning to car another 300 m path snowed in. If future chance to follow Tomazin's tracks, recommend he makes them a bit widervelik nasmehmežikanjeDespite all another excellent real winter tournasmeh.

Given the weather, which was partly cloudy and occasionally quite windy, I visited Plešivec today via Dolge Njive. Especially on Zg. Dolga Njiva strong wind, elsewhere ok. Views from Plešivec fantastic, especially when sun appeared. Snakes today luckily none met.

The one on pic 6 is the largest snow patch to cross. Not the only one, but the others are smaller and not many. No problems crossing.
With such views photos must be nice. Thanks.

This year this easy peak above Zgornja Dolga Njiva planina first post since 2020. It's easy unmarked path to summit on right side of Zgornja Dolga Njiva planina. Natural extension of Spodnja Dolga Njiva planina with beautiful alpine dairy. Grazing both pastures - also dairy alps. So at top of planina by fence steps over pasture fence and along border path through scrub up to 1801m Plešivec. Path unmarked. Summit stone with mark. View far around. See Šenkova Planina Austrian side and Austrian peaks names unknown. Left Tolsta Košuta ending whole Košuta ridge and further peaks. Opposite KSA peaks. Path from planina steep up. Today bit slippery. Caution on descent. Weather ok, no real heat anymore. Quite a few mushroom pickers around dairy. Ate mushroom soup from today's slippery jacks and chanterelles. Good.
Arrived at the parking lot before the pasture.1

After a long time I joined Sašota's group again and walked a nice path to Plešivec. Started at the Smrečje starting point, past the Stanič hunting hut and over Pečovnik to the Plešivec summit. Snow started a bit before the hunting hut. There was some trampling and sinking, but no big issues to the top. Tomorrow it will probably already be different. Nice tour.

Nice mountaineering greeting.

Kranj. Smrečje - Plešivec (along the road)-on this title the path is precisely described. Was first time on this path so don't know how followable it is when no snow. Just think it shouldn't be bigger problem. Path not marked. Good luck.

With fresh snowfall on Sunday this seemed safe location and especially remote enough where no crowd of people and after long time can try snowshoes again.
That for more exposed parts not suitable was warning all time Košuta from which it was flying down.
