so much advertising was done here this year for this ridge traverse, that it was already time to go check it out. It seems unusual to me that it's always described only half the ridge traverse, to me it seemed right to traverse the whole ridge, so: High Ponca - Strug - Vevnica - Little Koritniški Mangart - Mangart - descent via Via Italiana back to Belopeška lake.
At ferrata on V. Ponca I was surprised it starts so high (in my opinion about 100 m below summit, I was already sure I missed the junction). Traverse to Strug is relatively o.k., from Strug to col below Vevnica though due to crumbly terrain on exposed parts really quite dangerous at certain spots. Further o.k. Technically most demanding spot on whole route is below summit of Little Koritniški Mangart. Overall very nice route. But due to mentioned dangerous passages I don't recommend it.

Crossing half (a bit more, if precise ) is described because Via della Vita is included there, which you didn't do since you went ahead...

Does anyone have experience with the return from Vevnica to Tamar, ??? we'll go up from the lakes, the problem is the return.
we'd go with two cars - the return over Strug doesn't even cross my mind anymore - I crossed it years ago. LP!

Over Kotovo sedlo there's no problem, just you lose quite some height (some 400-500 m you have to redo). But there's also a direct way down, but someone who's been there will tell you more about it.

@nena19, if the return over Strug doesn't even cross your mind..., the descent from Vevniško sedlo past the wall at the end of Špica, direct to the bivouac at Kotovo sedlo and then to Tamar, which is the closest variant..., especially first time and downhill, I can't recommend...

Good thing I followed this. Nena, it's very demanding, there are no fixed protections, or they're in such bad condition you can't trust them. I see Silvestro has posted too, as he feels responsible. I did this route twice a few years ago and won't do it again unless the protections are fixed. I suggest the variant towards Mangart and descent past Nogara.
