Slovenian Touring Mountain Bike Trail (STKP)

Yesterday we rode 24th stage and the rest of 25th stage, so the route Brežice - Podsreda Castle - Hut on Bohor - Planina pri Sevnici - Šentjur. jezik

The route mostly follows asphalt paths and is almost entirely well marked. The whole route is normally rideable, only one descent (Turnče) we preferred to walk due to narrow and steep path and one ascent (19th km in 25th stage) was too demanding for us to ride due to destroyed track. mrk pogled

Hut on Bohor is closed on Mondays, but since the warden was tidying the surroundings, he kindly unlocked for us to refresh with drinks and stamp the STKP stamp, which is otherwise in the hut. nasmeh

Regarding logistics, a friend accompanied us to Brežice in the morning, who then drove the car home, so our older son could come pick us up in Šentjur in the afternoon. We're getting old, kids are growing, but there's something good for everyone. velik nasmeh

Otherwise it's quite a long route with lots of elevation, we arrived in Šentjur just as the first drops fell. mežikanje

This time during family vacation we biked a bit on 5th stage from 33 km of the route in Radovna (junction where the path descends from gravel to asphalt, near 9 km mark in Radovna), we parked the car there, to Blacksmith's Hut in Krma and further to Slovenian Alpine Museum. Since my STKP booklet edition doesn't have Aljažev dom in Vrata, we continued on the route of 6th stage to Gozd Martuljek along the bike path. Next day through Kranjska Gora and Krnica to Mihov dom for well-deserved lunch. nasmeh

in June we turned here into Kačji graben and to Špik

can go over the bridge, but through the water is more fun

Today we rode the rest of 34th stage and initial descent of 35th stage, so Mežica - Hut on Pikovem - Dom na Peci - Topla. mežikanje

The whole route is nicely marked and runs on asphalt, gravel and forest paths. The toughest are the last 2 km to Dom na Peci, which are hard to ride in one go, maybe someone ... eek

Return on the main road through Črna na Koroškem back to Mežica, a bit already on the new bike path. nasmeh

Marholče was waiting for me because I am slower

For three days we headed to Primorska. jezik

We left the car in the parking lot in the village of Skadanščina and after approx. 10 km we were in Krvavi Potok, where at the 6th km we joined stage 15. The stage runs on asphalt and gravel roads, the hardest is the descent from Socerb on a bad path to Osp. On the first day we finished a bit off the route in Izola. mežikanje

On the second day via Strunjan we finish stage 15 in Piran and continue along stage 16. When we leave the crowd of coastal towns, we cycle along the Dragonja river valley in solitude all the way to the end of the stage in Marezige, where we fall into the crowd again. eek

This is followed by continuation along stage 17 to Podpeč, where we slept, but before that we ate very well in Hrastovlje. velik nasmeh

On the last day there was still the ascent to Slavnik, where stage 17 ends, and the descent along the initial part of stage 18. The steepest was the ascent to Slavnik in the middle section, but the descent to our starting point was really pleasant.
Stamps are everywhere, if not STKP then from PZS.
We spent three wonderful days, of course tired at the end, but satisfied, as we got to know this part of our beautiful Slovenia a little differently. nasmeh

Although in our STKP booklet there is no Aljažev dom stamp from Vrata, on the second day of our family vacation we dedicated ourselves to the last part of stage 5, which was later added to the entire STKP route.
From Gozd Martuljek to Vrata and back we accumulated approx. 40 km, including a 25% climb in Vrata, which is steeper by bike than by car velik nasmeh

, but the youngest still enjoyed it, as he likes cycling. nasmeh

with the ramp the valley is more cyclist-friendly

We set off for two days to continue our journey. wink

In the morning, the bora greeted us in Ajdovščina, where we joined the 13th stage at Hiša mladih. The stage runs on asphalt and gravel roads and tracks, in a few places it was not rideable in this direction for us due to the steepness and lots of stones. On the first day we continued along the 14th stage to Komno, where we spent the night at a very well-known lady with TV. tongue

On the second day we continued along the 14th stage, which is probably one of the technically easiest and most beautiful for cycling. Only at the end it serves with a steep climb to Kokoš, but the road to the top is in good condition. There was only a descent along the initial part of the 15th stage and we were already in Krvavi potok, which we already knew, as we had already ridden the continuation towards the sea. smile

The STKP signs are on this part, but replacement is needed on Kokoš. I recommend following the trail, as this part of the STKP is not best marked.
We spent two wonderful days in Kras, of course among all the beauties Štanjel and Lipica stand out. If at Trstelj by the hut we could enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of an interesting caretaker, for the Koča na Kokoši I can only say that they are certainly very diligent and do a good job given the indescribable crowd. eek
