Is it really so hard to understand that not all live in Ljubljana or we're there only weekdays. So I don't have winter boots and gaiters with me. Since I haven't been on Šmarka winter yet I just asked how quick the path gets "cleared" after snowing. I won't push in approach shoes into 30 cm deep snow.

On Šmarna it's "cleared" already during snowing, at least main paths, so shoe height doesn't play big role (except if you'll be cavalier and stray into snow). Bigger issue is because it's quickly too "cleared" and thus good to have some spikes on shoes, especially on low ones.

Check the forum for which path you'll take. From Šmarna by six in the morning they're already walking down.

Today to the snowy Smarna Gora for a short hike. Started from Tacen via Spodnja kuhinja. The path is quite well trodden, some ice in places so crampons are good for safe going.

On Smarna it's hard to break fresh track; there's always someone who overtook you early in the morning, but meeting this tough guy today with 20cm new snow is not an everyday sighteek

Oh look "rumenkota"nasmeh I thought it was that one from Rašica (one wandered there mid-January) who tramped to Šmarna, but seems they don't have the same pattern.nasmeh

Yeah, obviously wondering what they miss while sleeping.nasmeh

A guy who goes barefoot on snow to Triglav needs a psychiatrist - because of such fools we need mountain rescuers!

I went to Smarna to check for sun which we miss a bit. And it showed up. Smarna is nicely snowy.

@tinky...did you go from Tacen? Is the trail below very muddy??? Thanks!

I went from Šmartno via šmartinska and then romarska. Up to the chapel quite muddy then better. Recommend crampons, especially on descent.

Again on Šmarna Gora, this time with grandson and granddaughter. Started in Šmartno, then partizanska to the top. After tea to Grmada and back romarska. Mud as much as you want, via Grmada much nicer trail.
