Yesterday, 05.06.2010 we visited Snježnik and Risnjak. We started at planina Lazac and climbed to Snježnik via Srebrnih vrat (still snow on some path sections!), from there via Rimskih vrat continued to Risnjak. From the hut we climbed to Veliki Risnjak summit. In the evening by the hut we watched a bear cub walking around the hut and chasing us into the hut several times. There were quite a few of us, but the bear wasn't exactly the smallest. We slept in the hut and today, 06.06.2010 returned to Lazac, on the way home also checked the Kolpa source. Pleasant and not too strenuous two-day trip.

Does anyone have info where in Slovenia to get Gorski Kotar map (Risnjak, Snježnik)? Visited several shops in LJ already, scoured the 'whole' internet, nothing.

If you're heading to these two peaks, you'll get all the info at the starting point, maybe even a map. It's very well marked.

@qvist: you don't need a map for this because it's really well marked (otherwise it's smand map Gorski Kotar IV, II edition 2007), the important thing is just to find Platak and for that Croatian road map is enough

Wine - does anyone also ski from Snježnik and Risnjak?

From Snježnik you can ski, from Risnjak not from the top as it's too rocky. From the hut below Risnjak you can ski though

Wine, how much time does visiting Risnjak and Snježnik together take? Is the path marked? How to find the starting point Cajtige?

The path is very well marked, no problem.
circular tour cajtige-risnjak-snježnik-cajtige we walked in 5 hours, with stops, we're locals. Easy, with enjoyment and with beer at risnjak house 6-7 hours. If you go from Platka (ski slope near Rijeka) you need one hour more (for platak-cajtige path part). In this case from Snježnik you return to Platak. Approximate walking time is also 6-7 hours, slowly. Recommend path from Platka (asphalt road to there), getting to Cajtiga by car is a bit tricky (forest roads).

Istrian nasmeh you can from Gornje Jelenje on the road leading to Risnjak. Drive to Vilje (sign NP Risnjak) and small parking (7km), then continue forward another approx 2 km to Cajtige pass (sign for some hunting ground I think). Can't go full speed. Road condition can be variable (sometimes in good condition, sometimes so-so - pretty bad).
