Suhi vrh

On Sunday in light drizzle with the dog to Suhi Vrh. In the section of the path from St. Bric church onwards, quite a lot of fallen trees on the path and a stone slide. In the middle section snow and ice under leaves, from the junction off the Nanos path onwards approx. 15 cm of snow, from the hunting hut onwards quite a few drifts on the road, on the flat path lots of snow to the summit. The predecessor who went up on Saturday wrote in the book that he waded to his knees. Descent on the steep path, which due to dense fog, erased predecessor tracks and markers under snow was quite orientationally demanding. GPS came in handy. Summit little visited in winter. They go only on the Nanos path to the hunting hut. Approx. 1 hour of path to the car soaked us well with rain. Spare dry clothes came in handy, the dog dried a bit with a rag.velik nasmeh l.p.

I myself realized halfway that it would have been better to turn back earlier at the hunting hut. It was my first time up there. l.p.

Morning view towards Gorenjska gave no hope even for 's' from sun, so quick plan change. Yeah right, Primorska nasmeh… again mežikanje… No need to think long, as Nanos and Suhi vrh 'in package' and 'a bit differently' have been in the wish chest for a while…

We drove to Strane village, then followed signs to Nanos. Wanting a loop tour, after ca. quarter hour we followed yellow arrows left onto nice forest path Jamborna pot which brought us to 'neighboring start' Veliko Ubeljsko. (That was just a small piece of Jamborna pot, if interested more - http://www.postojna.si/podrocje.aspx?id=3922 and http://www.postojna.si/dokument.aspx?id=6593). Well, here we missed a bit. At first house met friendly chatty villager tending his sheep and cute lambs nasmeh… chatted little and when asked for path to Nanos, he said we passed it, junction ca. 500 m higher on incoming path… junction unmarked (only flaw in markings, path otherwise perfect), cairn which we missed. Backtracked little, found junction and climbed to Nanos. Path steeply up all to top. Vojkova koča open. After short break continued to Suhi vrh and descended to car in Strane.

Only at hut met some hikers and one cyclist, else no one on whole path, well except two chamois, one hare and bunch of forest mice, butterflies and birds. Weather favored us, sun so strong we were glad for any cloud… only missed views… Path beautiful, varied and now especially greeeeen… everywhere… deciduous crowns in light green robes, on ground literally garlic plantations… Really nice and worth visit… nasmeh
On the coastal side a beautiful day was promised... view of the Nanos ridge while driving to the village Strane...1

On return towards Strane we detour to St. Bric chapel...locals apparently predicted good weather from local mist...16

GITA, if you'd been lucky you might have met a "furry one". I saw his tracks before holidays (top of the slope in your third pic) - big paw prints and small ones beside.
But I hope I won't get lucky to see it, let alone meet it zavijanje z očmi

@velesa, I totally believe it. And glad we didn't have that luck. mežikanje After the local in Veliko Ubeljsko explained how much damage these 'furry ones' and apparently wolves too do to his sheep, I continued a bit uneasily… twice my heart almost stopped when something moved in the forest… but both times just a chamois nasmeh… most carefully I 'checked' terrain before steeply descending into that hollow on steep path to Suhi vrh…. if you meet him there at bottom, I think you won't escape him… mežikanjenasmeh

When there was nowhere else to go, Suhi vrh was an okay choice today. Festively decorated, it welcomed visitors at the top. Well, there weren't many of us. Since we left one vehicle in Stranah and one in Razdrtem, we decided for descent to Pleša past Vojkova hut and flat path to the valley. Ascent from Stranah usual in the morning at 9 a.m. in clear forenoon. Past St. Bric church and then path to the top. We had whistles with us just in case, if a bear peeked from behind some tree or rock. But nothing like that. No sign of it. For descent we took an interesting path where I hadn't gone. Poorly visible. You descend to the valley and the path joins the marked one later. Very little snow drifted. Only wind on ridge from Vojkova hut quite strong. Nice interesting tour in last winter gasps.
Water along the path from the village Strane, from where we started the ascent.1

Last time we went to Suhi vrh we checked the ridge by which you can also go to Strane village. Marjan got path data and marked on phone since not marked from Suhi vrh to Vrh Maj. Then clear path to valley. On descent met some afternoon hikers probably only to bench. We did loop. Quite long. From Veliki Ubeljski on new quite steep path to Vojkova hut. Then to Suhi Vrh. From there along ridge. Past window, now know called Votla stena. To Vrh Maj and path to Strane. Didn't know we'd see window. One hiker we met said window man-made. But looked natural. Maybe someone knows? All new to me since never hiked here. Interesting walk among old trees. Many drying out. But that's life. All transient. Even us.
We two didn't meet him. Still, I wouldn't go on this path alone.1

From Maj to Suhi vrh (25.08.20)

From Strane village up to Maj. It's a path full of mosquitoes. Description to the summit found here. Along the ridge keep to it or the traceable path. Quickly at Suhi vrh, turn right just before it. Return to Strane on steep direct.

Today from Strane to Suhi vrh. Parked opposite playground. Path the whole way well marked and trodden. Locally icy, from junction to Vojkova hut snowed. Forecast wind but no force. Often completely calm, even just below summit windless. No views as expected today, but this path excellent recreation for Sunday afternoon. On return just below St. Bric met two hikers, otherwise no one. nasmehnasmeh
View of Plešo shortly after the start of the hike. It can be seen once more higher up, otherwise not.1

From May onwards, due to snow on the north side, I preferred to stick to the very edge of Votle stene. At least my shoes stayed dry. Except at the very summit, where I stayed less than a minute, the bora was tolerable/unobtrusive. The most annoying section was to the junction of the southern path to Strane, as you can't avoid the snow there.
