Hello! Looking for advice on sunglasses for mountaineering activities. Looking for "universal" ones, would use them mostly in summer season on via ferratas, high mountain tours and rock, for some summer glacier tour and some winter ascent. Which model and brand do you recommend quality-price wise? Looked at e.g. Julbo in Iglu... Thanks and happy trails!

Glasses as glasses. Nowadays lenses have all needed UV filters, some side shading areas already in frame design, some adjustable like sp. glasses parts (Alpina, Bolle, Cebe?, Oakley...). The most important is that they fit well on the head and grip from the back, view with wider angle - bigger lenses. For higher price glasses the lens optics is better (depth perception, clarity of objects view, nature). Most useful glasses where lenses change and extra strap for winter sports. In summer adapt to normal glasses. Good and very quality glasses also Rudy Project, mainly for cyclists and other sports. Main lens makers only few dozen, no hot water discovered there. Important they serve purpose and never throw among keys or other hard items. So undamaged serve years. Glasses buy mostly cat. 3, for Himalaya and ice tours need cat. 4 protection - lens change.

If you have eye problems then look at photochromics and let them be as closed as possible so rays from side or top don't reach eyes. recommend visit original julbo site where lens differences are clearly shown. I swear by julbo and have three with different lenses for different weather or locations.

Adidas Evil Eye or Adidas Elevation. I have them for road and MTB cycling, hill walking, glacier skiing - winter and summer. More money but lots of power. Very satisfied.

Another vote for Adidas. And another tip: from abroad you can sometimes get them at half price

@flora: Do they throw in a sombrero with the glasses? OK, I understand that top stuff costs, but I've never spent more than 50 (Bolle, used and "abused" for skiing, hiking, biking), and I was 100% happy until I lost them. :-( Now I have some for 10 €, I admit they suck.

What about us with prescription glasses? I think the most effective way is using contact lenses and sunglasses. Does anyone have experience with attachments with tinted lenses? So you mount the attachment on the glasses frame itself. Those flip-up lenses I wouldn't use though, because I don't solve crosswords.

Adidas offers the option of a prescription insert with some sunglasses. Evil Eye is one of them. If you're curious what it looks like, google "Adidas Evil Eye clip in".

To avoid senselessly spending a fortune on glasses that otherwise have very high profit margins, here's a quality and affordable option. In Kolesarski potepuh they have the HQBC brand, Treedom model with three lenses, extra nose piece and super hard case for a good price. I got mine by mail for 41eur. The glasses are designer-made by the world brand Oakley, the frame is very strong and fits all heads in white and black, lenses are first class. In Oakley factories they work non-stop for other clients to avoid production downtime. Namely, there's been a drop in sales of expensive glasses brands worldwide. Hope I saved you valuable time and money. http://www.kolesarski-potepuh.si/kolesarska-oprema/ocala/ocala-hqbc-treedom-bela

I don't know if you can get OK glasses for ten bucks. Of course all actually have UV now, the rest is frame and lenses, and finally spare parts? Regarding precise lens optics, HQBC fully positively surprised me with very clear and precise image. The guy from the shop also said he had expensive glasses before and damaged them, later tried these and noticed no difference at all, except they are not polarized, which shows only in glare, which is mostly at sea. For biking anyway you'll destroy even expensive ones sooner or later, because stones from tires often fly right into your face.

What's new is mostly just for a couple years of use, but expensive as saffron. Some time ago I saw in Šiška when a guy's brand new Porsche Cayenne crapped out in the middle of the street at Acapulco bar. They just dragged it to the sidewalk and then tow truck, car worth half a house. That's mostly how it is with material things, they rip us off with worthless junk pretending it's something. Some companies still hold up well despite quality drop and globalization, because they've realized it's worth doing good long-term.

I personally use Adidas Evil Eye glasses(http://www.adidas.com/Eyewear/content/en/products/10215/evil-eye-pro-S) with prescription inserts. This year I'm wearing them for the eighth year and barely any wear shows. In between I replaced the dark lenses once and the prescription ones. I use them on bike, driving car, hiking, winter and summer, basically for everything. They are expensive but in my opinion worth the money. If you catch a sale you can get them for quite normal price too.

Cebe glasses are so sporty-polished that they are suitable for any use, also some from Bolle and Oakley, need to look around and try on, category 3 tint.
